They have several employees there to help you with your needs, but the economy is making it extremely difficult to find homes for single families. When you add Covid to the table, it bares even more weight with getting in touch with employees at HAWS. My personal experience was being given the wrong information for housing and loosing out on the home and my deposit. Didn't even get an apology or have my money refunded.

Housing Authority is promoting Homelessness. I have a section 8 voucher yet I've been homeless going on 7 months now. The list they put out is of no use. The places are already rented the numbers don't work or they don't take section 8 . When I ask my worker's for help they are of no use. They tell me to tell the Realtors that section 8 has gone up. It's not my job to call Realtors and tell them voucher's have gone up. Y'all suppose to have a person there doing that. And getting this landlords to take it. I will be calling 2 wants to know.

Winston Salem is high on crime, even more so in areas like the projects ( Cleveland and Piedmont Projects). My best advice is to find a nice home on the south or west side of town. The better schools are located on the north and west side of Winston Salem. Good luck on your journey and I pray that you find something perfect for you and your family.
Best idea is to get the phone number and or email for your case worker. Whatever you do dont call them more than say once a week unless your drop date is in a couple days.
