Pretty convenient subway station right next to the museum of natural history. The 2 lanes are not on the same level, the level below is downtown train (C and B) while the upper level has uptown trains. A and D skip this station when they are running express (ie most of the time). The murals on the wall of this station inspired by the museum are really nice. Check them out.

The MetroCard vending machines or notorious for eating your money and not refunding your cards. Local trains skip this stop frequently.

Adults there is a suggested price of $23..I think $13 for ages 3-12(not 100% sure if it goes up to age 12). You don't have to pay that it's just suggested..you pay what you can. They'll ask at the desk how much would you like to pay(donate).
First you're at a local stop and A train is Express. Second it is the weekend trains run less frequently. The C local train runs approximately every 10 min.
Per MTA website, ABCDE lines in 81st area are delayed due to police activity. It appears there is service to/from 81st st.
Look at the MTA website it will list route changes and station closures
Yes. There is a wheelchair accessible entrance on 79th Street. Elevators are available to access all floors.
When we were there this summer it was "Pay what you wish" for general admission, but all of the special exhibits and movies you had to pay full price for.
