Call me Bernie. I am a Westbury resident now, but as a teenager 50 years ago, I traveled back and forth across the Country TWICE in successive Summers, and at the suggestion of someone I met the 2nd day on the road, I stayed in a Salvation Army "shelter" (in Snyder Texas, it was a room in the Snyder Hotel), and they fed me dinner, gave me a clean bed for the night, and breakfast the next day, with "Farewell and Godspeed". Ever since then, when anyone asks me for a donation, I politely inform them that the Salvation Army is my ONLY charity, and for the kindness they showed me long ago, I have willingly repaid them for it dozens of times over. When I was living in Floral Park, there was a thrift shop a mile away, and anything of value that I no longer needed, appliances, furniture, clothing, etc., I gave to them. I also bought many things there, increasing their cash flow as a result. As charitable organizations go, their use of donations has a higher percentage than any other charity I know. My Father told me when I was 10 years old, "There are 3 types of Palm. The Coconut Palm. The Date Palm. And, oh yes... The OUTSTRETCHED Palm. Many so-called charitable organizations collect millions, and keep most of it for themselves. I could name several, but they know who they are. The Salvation Army's ONLY mission is to help those in need, and they do it better than anyone else on Earth. As an American citizen, I am exercising my right to this opinion, and whether or not you share it is entirely up to you. Either way, if there was an approval rating of MORE than 5 Stars, they deserve it, period!

Place was closed at 3pm. I called! Listed as open! I wasted my time and gas with a fully packed car to donate clothing, shoes, dishes.
