As a member, I visited because I hadn't for a long while. Found the place very clean, and looking good. I wasn't there for an event or meeting, so it wasn't crowded.

Yes.
To join the VFW you must have served overseas in combat. For example, if you were in the navy on a ship, it must have been deployed into a combat area. There is also the Auxiliary. To join the Auxiliary you must be related to a veteran that is eligible to be in the vfw. They do not have to be a member, just eligible to join. You can be a parent, grandparent, sibling, or child, grandchild of veteran.
