This place is a shelter for convicts and homeless people. This is not a place for rehabilitation for average people to get help from drug addiction, like my brother was led to believe. It's more of a Ponzi scheme, you'll underatand how this place works if you go there.

God is here and you can find him, but you can find him anywhere! BUT, but if you're at your last drop with nowhere else to go, PLEASE GO AND STAY. Try your hardest and remember you're there for you and all will fall into place :) best wishes!!

Questions & Answers

My daughter is homeless, and living on the streets in Raleigh, she wants help to get off drugs, and get her life together. What does she need to do to get in the program for long term treatment?

Tracy Butler | Sep 18, 2020
k p0llux | Sep 18, 2020

Literally just show up. They'll take it from there.

Can people live there or do you need to check in and out leave at a certain time and come back at a certain time

Johnny Parker Jr | Sep 19, 2019
Richard McKinley | Sep 19, 2019

Well... Both. Men who live here in the recovery program are not separated from the world. They attend on campus AA and NA meetings and classes. But they also attend AA/NA meetings and other recovery meetings and church off campus. As well as going out to just social things like the store or seeing family off campus. There is of course a schedule to be followed. Men not in the program can stay in the homeless shelter and have specific times they can be on campus, but they do not "live" here.

Do you offer any services for mentally ill who are bipolar

Harriet Dank | Sep 18, 2020
jamie lee mursewick | Sep 18, 2020

They offer outside services such as monarch, turning point or Carlina outreach. Participants themselfs are expected to make all these arrangements and appointments. Healing Transitions will simply give you a bus pass.

How long is the men's recovery program? My ex is sober but wants to learn the life/job skills and how to cope with stress without turning to drugs and alcohol. No insurance..no job..no home stays with me sometimes

The time in the program varies depending on the participant. The fastest I have seen a man complete the whole program and "graduate" with a "silver chip" is 9 months. I took 15. Around a year is typical. However... Many men do not complete the entire program, leaving early, and still remain clean and sober having gotten what they need. Unfortunately, the disease of addiction is baffling and some complete the program and go on to relapse again. The beauty of the HT is 2 things: 1. It takes what it takes... As many times as necessary. (Once for me so far! 3 years!) And 2. The gift of time. As long as necessary AND a break from the working and social worlds. (It's still the real world with hard work on ourselves and regular interaction with others outside the program.) But they gave me the gift of time to heal and ready myself for the working world.

I'm a homeless disabled man with a long history of alcohol abuse, I believe I would benefit from your program, what do I need to do to get involved?

Josh Davis | Sep 19, 2019
jamie lee mursewick | Sep 18, 2020

If your disabled I would recommend you call and do a phone interview. They do not approve anyone that needs to much services or help. If you make more than 1200.00 a month from S.S.I. you more than likely will be turned away also.

Do they have a program for women

Angel s Hoffman | Sep 18, 2020
k p0llux | Sep 18, 2020

Yes, the women's facility is located at 3304 Glen Royal Road in Raleigh.

How long do you have to be there to be able to leave overnight or even the whole weekend

Theresa Foster | Sep 19, 2019
Richard McKinley | Sep 19, 2019

It varies. Even in the earliest stages of the program, people have been given permission to leave and come back if the reason was important enough. As a rule, overnight passes cannot be granted until the participant has reached his 4th/5th step and all concerns are handled. Generally that's going to be around 5 to 6 months in the program. It's important to note: There are no locks keeping the men or women in! One can always leave! But... Leaving without permission does result in consequences if you want to get back into the program.

Can these individuals receive packages through the mail?

Theresa Foster | Sep 19, 2019
Richard McKinley | Sep 19, 2019

Yes. Mail is accepted and is sorted and passed out to the clients. But packages are opened by the client in the office to be certain that no prohibited items are in them.

Do they take people in the Sex Offender registry? I know someone that can't find a place to stay in even though he works. As far as I know he doesn't use drugs.

Antonio Leyba | Sep 19, 2019
Richard McKinley | Sep 19, 2019

Well. The program is for addicts/alcoholics. The shelter separately does take in men who just need a place to stay for a night, but with overcrowding from the program itself, there are not many extra beds. None some nights. Another problem, and you'll have to call for specific up to date info, is that as of just a few months ago, the program can no longer house those on the registry because a daycare opened up too close by. Before that, they could. But things may have changed since I got that notice.

Do you have to be a resident of the county even if your homeless living in Raleigh to stay at the shelter and get into the program?

Shane Hamm | Sep 19, 2019
Richard McKinley | Sep 19, 2019

If someone is homeless in Raleigh/Wake county, then that is generally enough to use the shelter. Anyone needing detox can receive help. To become part of the recovery program from the beginning, then being a resident is one criteria. There's also being a veteran or coming from a partner county in Eastern NC that is serviced by Trillium. There is some flexibility, but residents come first. One important criteria is the commitment to remain in the county AFTER completing the program. It's not enforceable, but the stated intention to remain here in recovery carries weight in determining acceptance in the program.
