This is an updated review. My child attended camp here a few years ago. I left a review on google and just noticed the false information the owner left regarding my review. I tried to respond to the false information provided, but can’t, so I’m writing a more thorough one. I would also like to point out most of the reviews here are kids posting and giving support, but who have not attended. My 17 year old attended Brave Trails a few years ago. The location to the camp is kept secret for obvious reasons, but it’s somewhere up in the mountains near Palmdale. We received a discount scholarship for our child to attend, I honestly can’t remember if it was one week or two at this point, but our child has never been away from us for 14 days, so I would be surprised if it was two. when we applied on time to come again, they did not offer us a scholarship at all. This is the false information provide in the previous response. If we would have been given any support we would have taken it. We are a working class family of 5, I’m an educator and my partner is in trade. At the time I felt like I was letting my child down, because we just couldn’t afford it at the time at that cost. Unless Brave trails has grossly achieved an increase of external support to increase the amount of scholarships given, the kids who go here extremely privileged. My child felt clearly singled out as a scholarship kid. Many of the kids are returning campers or live in areas that they already know each other. The activities are crafts, drag shows, dance parties. These are all great things, but not all LGBTQ people are interested in performing or being on stage. It’s not a very physically active camp experience, or at least that was our child’s experience. My child loves the outdoors, hiking, nature, horseback riding etc. What I really want to say is that many camps in California are becoming inclusive and educating themselves more about the needs of LGBTQ people and supporting them so they can attend camp with the general population and feel apart of it all. Our child has found that at another camp. When our child first camp out, we thought we needed the safety/ sheltered experience for them and that is why we felt like Brave Trails was the only option, but it isn’t. You have other more affordable options.

Just here to support, wish I could go sometime but I am not vaccinated. Would have been nice to go to meet more LGBTQ people like me but maybe another time.

I’ve never been here but I hope to one day! I love this so much and I’ve always wanted to go to an lgbtq camp. If only my parents weren’t homophobic:(
