We were planning the services in their office. The woman tells us when to bring the clothes my father would be buried in and she tells us not to bring shoes". That should be advertised or something bc that still makes me uncomfortable when I think about it. Had I known this little detail, we would've used another funeral and burial service. My dad was a Vietnam War veteran. We made it known that he wanted and that we wanted to ensure that he received a gun-salute at Fort Leavenworth. When we arrived at Fort Leavenworth, his casket was in a little building and it was evident that there would be no gun-salute. *** May 2021 edit -I need to add this additional detail so that no one is confused: My dad was buried on a sunny, cloudless afternoon. There had been no rainfall that day, the grass and pavement were dry. *** I'll never know who dropped the ball, but the point is that Lawrence A. Jones failed. Gun salute was requested during the funeral planning (They expect their check before you leave that meeting room, by-the-way). Lawrence A. Jones was hired to perform funeral services with a gun-salute & burial at Ft Leavenworth, it didn't happen. First and foremost Lawrence A. Jones failed my father. They also failed us. Thinking about it angers me to my core. Still. If the thought that KNOWING your loved will be buried without shoes makes you uncomfortable, choose another funeral business. My mom, sister and I requested a closed casket service with no wake only because we did not want to bear witness to our dad's body laying there, in front of us, in a casket. For us, that process is all too much. I do not need to view someone to know they've gone home. However, arrangements were made for his son, brother and best friend, to view him the day before the service. I often think about what other items my dad may have been buried without. All these years later and the no shoes on the decedent rule, bothers me immensely. I keep the shoes we wanted him to wear inside a special box, on the top shelf of my bedroom closet. We will never use this company again.

A funeral home has never been a pleasurable place for anyone,but it is a place to say your final goodbyes. Most importantly we should always let the people that we care about know how much you love them and care about them while they are living, because when you leave this world and enter that casket it's no more hellos or goodbyes it's over.
