Such a great office! Serena, Dr Haiman’s assistant, is such a professional! With that kind of assistant I knew the Doctor would be excellent and he is. Dr Haiman is obviously doing what he loves. Is it true that Dry Eye symptoms seem to be more severe in the winter than warmer spring and summer months? Generally this is true. During the winter months the air is dryer which make symptoms worse. Our tear film has 2 major components, oil and water. When the air is dry it causes more evaporation of water drying out the eyes surface. Blepharitis, a very common form of dry eyes is caused by the production of thicker oils. When you have thicker oils they do not express into the tear film causing evaporation of the water portion of your tears. I find this more common during the Spring and Summer months. Thicker oils lead to increase bacteria on the lids surface. Bacteria growing in the thick oils leads to burning, itchy, scratchy eyes. Many patients confuse this with ocular allergies but more in depth questioning leads to itchy eyelids vs. itchy eyes. When should a person come in to see their Optometrist for Dry Eye symptoms and when is it enough to take ca

do you take medicaid?
