I seriously doubt it's a fire safety issue since they used to only have one entrance before the remodel. They're probably closing the entrance that's closest to Broadway shortly before store closing

It doesn't just look bigger, it actually is bigger. They widened it on the back end three or four feet and in the front that face is Broadway they've actually pushed it out to Encompass the area that previously was the triangular shape planting bed area in front of the store.

Their Twitter account says all US stores will be open 9-4, with some stores having extended hours.

I believe it's scheduled to reopen around the middle of November according to the sign that was on their front door just before they closed in September
