One of the few beaches in the area with free parking. However, most of the parking spaces are taken by golf carts. So, for us who don't rent a house near the beach we are out of luck. They really don't want the working poor to access the beach. Another draw back? Dogs, yes barking dogs all over. We were the only ones without a dog at the beach. A few were well behaved and adorable. Most were barking all the time and really ruined the relaxation action I was looking for after working for a whole month without a day off. As far as the beach, at high tide, it is very narrow and you have to be almost on the dunes. At low tide there's plenty of space.

Is the Oak Island pier free? I know some piers charge, I was just wondering about this one. Thanks for your help!

Oak Island pier is not free for fishing. Free for walking. Was just there in May 2022. The Southport pier is free but is much smaller.

What are beach hours

We stayed on the beach at SE 77th St public beach access and the sign there had information on when you could have your dog off-leash but no stated hours. We often went onto the beach at night and there were quite a few folks there. Also there were no lifeguards or other signs of an authority structure. I don't think there are "beach hours."
