We stayed at Southern shore villas at oak island and rented the condo through MRA. We originally had an Airbnb booked but cancelled and chose this place which was a huge mistake. We arrived late Friday evening to the condo and found the following: broken vertical blinds in the living room, shattered globe on the light in the hallway, door in hallway covered in dust, mold in the master bath shower, clogged hallway toilet, lipstick stains on wine glasses, food/dirt on the couch and black mold on the ceilings (please see photos). I called first thing Saturday morning and spoke to someone o report these things and she stated someone would reach out to me about all of this but no one ever did. A maintenance person did show up to unclog the toilet, he rehung the blinds and sprayed a bleach solution over the block mold on the ceilings (which still remained after he left). This is not appropriate treatment for black mold and not only can cause health problems but is a long term damage issue that needs to be properly fixed. He also left the couch covered in popcorn ceiling mess where they scraped some stuff off and we had to clean that up after returning from the beach. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. You shouldn’t work hard to save money for a vacation then end up in a place like this. It makes me angry this was our only vacation this year and we experienced these things. No one ever reached out to try to make things right or apologize but they took our money that’s for sure, even charged a cleaning fee in the rental cost which should definitely be refunded. Please don’t waste your hard earned money with this company, go with a company that actually care about your vacation experience.

Ms. Crawford: We will usually post updates as it pertains to our office procedures and policies. We have an Inclement Weather page which we activate during times of inclement weather and it can be found here: https://www.rudd.com/about-us/inclement-weather-updates/. We also usually send out communications to our guests. In general, when there is a mandatory evacuation or if homes are inhabitable - a guest's travel insurance will come into play to cover the cost of the rental and the agency will cover the cost of optional fees/taxes.
You can 'pre' reserve for a $50 (plus tax) fee up to 51 weeks before your desired stay. This is because the renters that have it this year for that week have first dibs for the same week next year. They only have til the last day of their stay to do this. Your $50 holds the house till January when the rental agreements are drawn up. The $50 will be returned along with your deposit after your stay. Otherwise, it is non-refundable
Call the rental agent. They do have rentals that are short term and dog friendly, especially off season.
