Quiet place, nice view and friendly staff. Happy the library reopened

I've been there many, many times since its opening way back in the 1990s. What keeps me coming back? A very restful and quiet location, an airy, well-lit modern building, free parking, and a wonderfully friendly staff, are some of the reasons why. My only nit is the book collection could be larger if they had taller mid-room shelving (they don't even come up to your chest) , but compared to the tiny hole-in-the wall strip mall location the Marina library used to inhabit, everything is a HUGE improvement. They have at least 20 recently-upgraded PCs for internet use for up to an hour, but ask nicely and they'll give you more time. One previous reviewer gave a 1-star rating due to body odor from a bunch of homeless people but I can assure you I've been there HUNDREDS of times and NEVER noticed anything like that! Another reviewer complained about the quality of the free wi-fi. The wi-fi WAS sketchy back in the day, I'll admit, but about 2 years ago the wi-fi was SERIOUSLY upgraded and now it's very fast and stable, and has a strong enough signal to easily reach the parking lot.

I hope they will be able to open the library— i really miss going there to sit and read. The staff is wonderful!

Clean, peaceful, welcoming environment with so many books to read ! The library has a good assortment of cultural activities as well (film projections, etc).

No. Monterey City library is a different library system. They are associated with PG. Most other libraries are part of the Mo. Co. Free Libraries system. Not Monterey or Pacififc Grove, though.
Sales are held on the second Saturday and Sunday of February, April, June, October, and December
