I have a 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD. It has the factory clearance, can I run trails with this or should i get a lift kit?

You can probably do everything here. There are one or two spots that might be questionable, but there are convenient bypasses. Note that the trails are closed until April.
Edit: Bill, if you are on Facebook I highly recommend checking out the Carolina 4Runners Off-Road Group. Feel free to email me as well, as I live very close to Brown Mountain and love to meet fellow Toyota enthusiasts.
Does this trail have differnet trails like hard and easy

Yes there is a trail marker and trail number at each trail. You can also get a map that identifies each trail and the level of difficulty. I get my map at the store across from the entrance to the park.
I have a 2011 4runner with a 2 inch lift and 31 inch tires. Which trails/roads could it handle.

The only trails that trucks are allowed on are 1 & 8. Your 4Runner should be fine on both.
There are a few places that may be a little tight for a full size truck.
The noise regulations are clearly spelled out on the website.

Yes. Trails 1 and 8 allow 4x4s. Stock vehicles will be fine. There are a couple of obstacles driver experience will be beneficial. Not to worry. It's a loop, so if it's above your comfort level you can go back. It's a fun place to ride!

I do not recommend that area for beginners.
Are you able to get cell service or GPS at Brown Mountain OHV area?
Jackson Batson | May 19, 2022
Tim Whitt | May 19, 2022
It's spotty but you can get cell service. GPS on the phone will get you to the trail head but won't help as much on the trails. Best to stop at the gas station and get a map of the trails for free
Are the trails open

Yes there open
Not a fan of the national forest websites at all! They really hide information and the pages seem really cluttered. I had to get lost and end up at the wrong gas station to find out I needed to go Eldorado outpost. Where do I get pass for this park?

Collettsville General Store has passes. Not more than 10 min down the road. Just ask the person inside for a day pass. You can also go down 181 and there are a few places that sell them. Those businesses have a black and sign outside.
Do they allow pets for people who are just camping?

They have spots on the drive going up to the parking lot. It is off grid camping. If you want hookups, look at Steele creek campground up 181 which is less than 10 min away.
You can do all of the above really. Fonta Flora has some nice bike trails as does wilson creek. There are a couple camping options and airbnbs real close
What are the hours if set that we can go out and ride?

Tons right up the road. Brown MTN is a little too technical for dual sport but there are many miles between there and Boone that are fun

Closest hotel is like 15 miles be away in Lenoir. Probably about the same distance for Morganton. Take your pick.
If you're discreet and calm, how strict are the alcohol rules?
Kelly Hester | Sep 17, 2018
Chase Ledbetter | Sep 17, 2019
Very, very strict. I've received 2 tickets on separate occasions there just for having it in my cooler when I arrived. Never opened or even had it out. They check coolers and come around to campsites during the night
