Went to Carolina Urban Lumber for the first time in search of some rough cut lumber and they did not disappoint. There were a great variety of species and sizes of rough cut lumber. I also appreciated the availability of info regarding where the lumber actually came from. While I only shopped around in the lumber containers, I did notice a large selection of slabs and finished boards. The staff is knowledgeable and full of quality suggestions regarding your specific needs based on the project. In my opinion the real gold mine is the scrap bin. I grabbed a few pieces of white oak and walnut that I could use for testing finishes, spline, different inlays, etc. and all for under $5. Safe to say I'll be back soon.

Being in the set building side of the film industry, I’ve used a lot of vendors for our different lumber needs and Carolina Urban Lumber takes a top tier seat! Damon and everyone were so amazingly helpful with all of our crazy needs and understood our time crunch and made it happen! Bravo guys! Can’t wait to work with you again. I’ll let ya know when the movie comes out;)

I purchased a $500 slab and the wood split within 1 week. I was told “we’re sorry” without any help at a resolution. I’ve worked with them before and been pleased but I was hoping for a little bit better communication with my issue. No reply to my email as well with pictures.

Do you all carry 1/2" or 1/4" walnut veneer plywood? If so, advise price. Thanks. Norm

No we do not carry any plywood or veneer. Thinnest walnut we have is 4/4 (1inch) rough sawn walnut.

Do they buy burl wood?

Jay Lee | Sep 16, 2021
Carolina Urban Lumber | Sep 16, 2021

We do not buy Burl wood. Reason is folks will go cut burka off healthy living trees to sell them. Since we can not tell for sure where they come from we do not contribute to that practice. We have tree service partners who do get burls from trees they remove.

I have 5 large black walnut trees I want to sell, the largest is 102 inches round and smallest is 65 inches round. If not would you know someone in surrounding counties that would buy it from me? Thanks for your help.

Hi Sith. Thank you for reaching out however we do not buy logs. If we bought your logs, everyone would cut down their beautiful trees and that would make us sad.

Is there a list of available wood types? Are there wood types that are generally more available? I am interested in hard woods, specifically, Maple, Oak and Walnut, but would be interested in the woods you have on a regular basis.

Hi Eric. We constantly update our available lumber on our website as we empty our kiln. We consistently have Maple and Oak of various thicknesses and more often than not, Walnut. In addition to these "local staples," we carry various other types of local hardwoods. Feel free to visit our website (https://carolinaurbanlumber.com/local-lumber) or our shop for more!

Do you carry large railroad tie type lumber that one would use for raised bed gardening? Thanks, Claudia

Claudia Hamill | Sep 17, 2018
Daniel Heaton | Sep 17, 2019

Hi Claudia. For raised garden beds with ground contact, we would recommend cedar board or beams. We have a handful of large cedar beams at the moment (5/27/19) and can custom mill some at our sawmill should you require more. Feel free to stop by our shop during our posted hours and we'll help walk you through the process!
