Have been going here now for almost 2 years. Signed up for their insurance program which is very convenient with monthly payments. Don't have ANY out of pocket unless for prescriptions for flea stuff or other odd things. All shots, multiple exams all covered. Just took our dog in for teeth cleaning - a first. He did well. Staff seems attentive and helpful.

On June 4, 22 I took my cat into your location in Fort Lauderdale. She had not eaten, was lethargic and had not gone to the bathroom for 2 days. Upon arrival I gave the lady who checked her in all the concerns I had which she wrote down. she was dropped off at 11am (I find it very disturbing that a pet owner cannot accompany their pet to be examined at this establishment) to find out what was wrong with my baby. A little while later I repeated myself to another assistant the same concerns. Around 3pm Dr. Lauren Byrket called me to ask what Sophie’s issues were, I was in shock as Sophie had been in their care since 11am. For the third time I repeated myself. I asked her if Sophie got a urine test This was followed up by the Dr. asking me if I wanted a urine test quoting cost as she went. By this time I was upset because of repetitive questions and the length of time Sophie had spent there with no one checking her out. Banfield ran a bunch of tests including but not limited to roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and so many more, some of which I understand to discern Sophie’s issues, others just to run up the bill. She was also given some medicine to encourage her to eat, intravenous antibiotics etc. Dr. Byrket called again around 4 – 4:30pm with the diagnosis of Sophie, a little anemia, a little tartar, little blood infection, a little pesticide (no pesticides used in my home) in her urine NOTHING TOO CRAZY. The x-rays diagnosed her with a hernia but to confirm they sent the x-rays to a specialist incurring additional fees, her diagnosis was done VIA PHONE CALL. I was told to pick Sophie up before 5pm as they close and She is ready to go home. When I arrived for Sophie I asked about a health plan for my cat. Her assistant said if I get the plan today I pay through the year and if Sophie dies I am still liable for the balance of the plan. I asked at that time if my Sophie was going to die. He did not confirm either way. After paying $972+ I took Sophie home (after checking other vet charges for such tests in the area I can say this establishment charges almost double). Sophie remained in distress all through the weekend as I patiently waited for the results I was promised on Monday. I could no longer see my Sophie suffering so I called Dr. Byrket and she repeated once again Sophie had a hernia. I asked her if they had an ultra sound on their premises and she replied NO THEY DID NOT HAVE AN ULTRASOUND AT THEIR LOCATION. I suggested perhaps a second opinion from another veterinarian would be a good idea. I was so distressed to see my cat suffering so much I immediately called another vet for a second opinion to resolve Sophie’s issues. On Tuesday a local veterinarian made an examination of Sophie in my presence and, after checking her gums he said she had crazy anemia and when he touched her belly she cried in pain. He then stated there was something seriously wrong with her. He asked for the x-rays from Banfield, and upon checking the same x-rays he exclaimed Sophie does not have a hernia she has a large mass accompanied by several other abnormalities. He required an ultrasound to confirm his diagnosis, another $595 to get the answer I needed for Sophie. Next day the diagnosis was grim for my Sophie. She had several masses in her intestines and one that was particularly large between her heart and her esophagus. Her life span at that time was cut extremely short and I made the most painful decision of my life. Sophie’s suffering had to end as there was ABSOLUTELY NO RECOVERING from this. Banfield absolutely refuses to refund any part of my $972, in my opinion for their wrong diagnosis and unnecessary medication. If you love your pet I would suggest if you are contemplating utilizing this Banfield location that you do some homework, compare their prices and Dr’s references and reviews for starters. What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?

Banfield Pet Hospital | Sep 15, 2020

Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
