We've rented houseboats or runabouts from Pirate Cove for 3 years running. Pros: they have good service, low prices compared to others around the lake (yes, we shopped all of the marinas at SML), and you can keep boats overnight. In fact we think this might be the only marina that allows this. Cons: the boats are beat up, are generally worn out, and accessories may not work. Lines are only 3 or 4 feet long on runabouts so plan on supplying your own if you actually intend to dock anywhere. Anchors are undersized for the boats so plan to raft up with your friend's boat. We borrowed an anchor from our friends to help secure the houseboat when we wanted to anchor. We've rented two houseboats and they were just OK. They're a novelty the first time you get one so people get excited. It's also convenient that Parrot Cove has gas, and note that they will fill the boat up when you return it and just charge you the fair price for the gas. So Pirate Cove is great, but the boats are average to poor.

Rented pontoon boat today on Smith Mt.Lake. All of the staff is very friendly and helpful. The boat was in good shape and ran well. Would highly recommend for boat rentals on this lake.

What a beautiful lake!! We usually go to Kentucky, Lake Cumberland, and rent a houseboat for a week. We seen a sign about Smith Mountain Lake so we googled and seen they rented houseboats so we decided to give it a shot since it's so much closer. The boats are comfortably priced, and we used way less gas than we thought. We definitely can't wait to come back next summer. Thank You Parrot Cove for a great vacay.

Price list is listed at the bottom of each Rental page on the website: https://www.parrotcove.com/boat-rentals/house-boats/
Their website says "no pets allowed sorry" at least for house boat rentals.
No. You do not need a license. BUT, you will have to watch a 15 min video about boat operation and water rules. That's all.
Yes! Prices depend on what boat you are wanting to rent. All deposit info is on the site
Gas depends on how much you tour the lake and how much you run the generator. We did M-Th in the 39 foot, toured a fair amount, ran the generator all night, and only used 44 gallons of gas, which was about $150.
It's by the day. But you can pick up the pontoon and bring it back whenever you want! We love the staff here and always use Parrot Cove!
Probably 30 min to get close to the dam at end of lake, 20 mins to get to the State Park beach area.
Do the boats have AC?
Go to the web site. All the prices are there. It shows seasonal prices and there is a calendar as well
The houseboats don't go fast enough to make tubing any fun. I would suggest having a jet ski also if you are looking some speed.
