I want to support this black owned bank so want to open an account with a few thousand dollars. Do I have to go to a Branch to open and account to support the bank.

No sir! I also wanted to support black owned businesses by opening an account, but you can do it all online at oneunited.com. If you want to fund your account without paying for a wire transfer, you will have to contend with the mobile deposit limit (1500$) on checks, but otherwise everything can be done online
