Love CASELLA and love this convenient location but could do without the guy's (substitute for the usual wonderful woman who works here) point of views and I was far too polite. He came out while I was unloading my garbage and recyclables to talk, explaining the abuse he took when he was late. I sympathized with him saying that people weren't dealing with stress too well, these days. He then proceeded to talk about what a hoax he thought COVID was, even though I had just told him an acquaintance died of it yesterday morning and that his wife was close behind. As I repeatedly stepped on the gas to inch my way out of there, he informed me he hated working in that very beautiful location, that it was "boring," that he wanted very much to get out of NY and asked why I moved back here from Texas. I told him I loved it here so he proceeded to tell me how much he hated a political figure (and his father) who very literally saved my life and my home. I politely informed him that Pennsylvania (another beautiful state) was not too far away. No reflection on CASELLA, at all, but I could have done without this guy's chosen ignorance. I won't be so polite should he attempt it again. He said, understandably, that he loves when customers talk to him but he needs to learn a little bit about the art of conversation, how to read his audience and how not use people on which to to force his ill-informed beliefs. As for CASELLA the company, thank you and keep up the good service you provide our community.

What is Zero-Sort recycling?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

Zero-Sort recycling is Casella's state-of-the-art process, which enables all recyclables - paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and metal cans to be collected in one container eliminating the need for you to separate recyclables.

How should I prepare my recyclables?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

Recyclables should be rinsed clean of any food waste. Corrugated cardboard boxes should be broken down into 18" x 18" max pieces. Lids and caps can remain on empty plastic bottles. DO NOT tie newspaper or cardboard with twine.

Does trash need to be separated from Zero-Sort recycling?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

Yes. Items that can't be recycled should be tossed into your trash container. Your Zero-Sort recycling container is for recyclables only - paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and metal cans. Please do not place any trash items in your Zero-Sort recycling container as this can cause contamination.

If I cancel my service or place my account on hold prior to the last pickup of the month, will I receive a credit?

The household hazardous waste day planned in my community was just cancelled due to COVID-19. What should I do with my hazardous waste?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

Please store all hazardous waste, including batteries, in a safe place in your home until there is a rescheduled household hazardous waste day in your community. It is very important that household hazardous waste NOT be disposed of as regular waste in your bin.

Is there a set time each week my trash and recycle will be picked up?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

Unfortunately, there is no set time. Please place containers at the curb the night before your scheduled pickup day.

I saw Casella placing both trash and recycling in the same truck. Are the materials being mixed together?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

Great question! On many of our routes, Casella operates what are known as split-body trucks. With a split-body truck, the trash and Zero-Sort recycling are dumped into the same opening on the truck but are separated by different compartments. These modernized vehicles keep the trash and recycling separate and facilitate the collection of both materials on the same trip.

Should I still be separating my waste from my recycling? Are you going to be combining my trash and recycling in one truck?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

We will still be collecting your waste and your recycling separately at this time, and there is no anticipated change in your level of service.

Can I put construction debris in my trash container?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

No. Trash containers are intended for municipal solid waste (household trash) only. For disposing of construction debris please call 800-CASELLA to discuss renting a dumpster.

I (or a member of my household) have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Will you still pick up my waste and recycling? Is there anything special I need to do?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

The guidance we have received from OSHA is that regular waste generated in a household where someone has been diagnosed with the coronavirus is to be handled as we manage all waste, following normal safety precautions and wearing personal protective equipment that all of our drivers and helpers have on daily. There will not be a change in your service, and we wish you well.

Should I be bagging my trash, or leaving it loose in the container? How about my recyclables?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

Please bag all of your waste materials and put the bags in your container. We request that you not bag your recyclables, as it creates issues for our recycling center sorting lines.

I normally bring my household hazardous waste to the local transfer station, but I am anxious to go to the transfer station now. What should I do with it?

Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021
Casella Waste Systems | Sep 15, 2021

Please store all hazardous waste, including batteries, in a safe place in your home until there you feel safe going to the transfer station. It is very important that household hazardous waste NOT be disposed of as regular waste in your bin.
