When you call, they come. Traffic accidents, domestic feuds, and noise complaints. If there's not an immediate emergency, don't bother with 911, just call the department and file your report. Only took 10 minutes for an officer to show up and clear out some offenders I reported, most of that time was probably the office dispatching from the department down the way. Thank you.

I moved to Amsterdam about 2 yrs ago. I always gave APD the up most respect until recently. When you call 911 a dispatcher will assist you, ask a million questions then forward your call to police department, just to be asked the same questions mean while it can be life threatening situation. On more the one occasion I’ve witnessed officers basically do nothing. Recently officer I was speaking to looked at his watch and informed to let me know his shift was up in 10 min!!! I won’t bother to call the department as it’s a waste of my time and apparently their’s. Anything that’s newsworthy and to appraise the officers on cracking down on crime is what the community wants to see and hear so Amsterdam itself gets some kind of grant! Stay safe everyone

I saw some very suspicious behavior at a local restaurant and I called the Amsterdam Police Department and the dispatcher took my call seriously and transferred me to the Sheriff's Department. I am grateful that she was compassionate and did not dismiss my suspicion as silly or unfounded. I am very grateful to her.
