The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell

I live in Florida and traveled to see my brother at the nursing home. I was simply shocked at the conditions. My brother was eating his lunch. He is nearly blind and wheelchair-bound they had him eating with his hands how undignified! I cleaned my brother up as best I could. He had food all over his hands his face and his clothes I tried to get him to use utensils when I did this one of the staff shouted (my brothers name) “use your hands” His fingernails and hair were overgrown and dirty. Overall the facility is rundown dirty and smells. I really wish I knew how to change his living conditions but they were limited from the start. I would definitely not recommend any Barnwell facility to anyone.

Your employees have not only told my relative how gross it is to be made to take care of them, avoid emptying drainage bags, but also do not properly bathe them. The staff are not required to take daily covid tests leading to an ongoing outbreak at this facility.

My beloved mother moved into the Grand in October of 2021 with 24 hours notice while we were at a family funeral. At the time it seemed like the worst thing possible, I saw the ratings and was so upset. My mother moving to the Grand has been such a blessing, her progress since she moved there is amazing! She moved there from a hospital, not even being able to feed herself. We go to the Grand to see her and she is sitting up laughing and talking like old times. I have never seen a dementia patient in a Nursing Home so happy, she says everyone is so nice and wonderful to her. The Grand has given her the stability and stimulation that a dementia patient needs and in turn I have bits of my old Mom back and that is a wonderful feeling. I brought a friend to visit with me and her mother in law was in a Nursing Home and she was stunned to see how much they had going on for the patients and how nice and helpful everyone that works there was. Bridget and everyone in activities does an outstanding job, so perfect for dementia patients. Also, I have to say when I call the receptionists are always so pleasant and go out of their way to help me. Everyone that works there is always so friendly and helpful, I actually have a good time visiting there. For a large Nursing Home it has a very welcoming and fun vibe. (as much as it can be) Terri the head Nurse on the 1st floor is always so kind, it is easy to speak with her. Actually, everyone that works on that floor is wonderful, they make it fun to visit my mother. I so appreciate their care, she always looks well groomed and happy. Thank you for everything your staff does, you hire well.

ZERO is what this place deserves. This place doesn't even deserve a 1. My sister has been there 5 days. No therapy, no infusions that she requires, her name and date of birth are wrong on her name band. The phone rings forever and then you only get people's voice mail. I understand short staffed and all that but rudeness is not acceptable. If anything positive changes I will post.
