I wanted to write a review specifically for Sherry (an employee at prince william humane society) - whom I was so grateful of being on the other side of the phone, when I called to get some information about a lost cat I found. She was so genuinely kind & caring, personable, incredibly informative & just completely amazing overall! She knew all the answers to my questions & so much more. Definitely above & beyond when it comes to her job. If only more people I spoke to was as refreshing as she was. I had to make sure to write a review just for her. I am so appreciative & hope that she is acknowledged for highly impressive performance at her job in every way possible. She deserves it. She is so well suited for this career. Thank you again so much for all your help Sherry!

Came in on to look into volunteering opportunities. This place is a quiet, friendly, no kill, non-profit organization. Everyone there seems to love pets and care for them deeply. I plan on volunteering soon!

Questions & Answers

Do I need to do anything else. Can I come in at some time??

Tamia Thorpe | Sep 16, 2018
Ellen Perkins | Sep 16, 2018

Our volunteers start at 8 on weekends. I will be there this weekend for morning pet care. If you'd like to come by in the morning Saturday and/or Sunday, I'd be happy to start training!

I hope you don’t mind, but can you tell me about homeless animals, and where you take them? it’s for a very important project, I don’t mean to be rude.

Prince William Humane Society, Homeless Animals Support Network (HASN) | Jan 18, 2022

Kat, We no longer have an adoption facility and we don't accept surrendered pets. If an owner contacts us to surrender their pet, we try to determine if the cause of surrender can be mitigated with training, assistance, medical care, etc. If not, we refer the owner to local rescue organizations close to them that may be able to take their pet and find it a new home. I hope that answers your question.

How old do you have to volunteer without a parent? Because I’m trying to volunteer during the summer (I’m turning 15 in the summer)

You must be 16 or accompanied by a parent or other person over 18 years old. Maybe you can talk someone into coming with you and making it a family affair.

I have pet supplies I would like to donate. Is this possible? If so when?

What is the process? and how much money do I need to adopt?

Jose Minas | Sep 16, 2019
Prince William Humane Society, Homeless Animals Support Network (HASN) | Sep 16, 2019

Jose, all of our adoptable pets have been seen by a Vet, received all their vaccines, been spayed or neutered & microchipped prior to us offering them for adoption. Additionally, we have to pay the P W Cty Shelter a transfer fee of $45 per pet just to take custody of them. As such, our adoption fees are $100 for cats, $150 for kittens ( that require a series of vaccines), $200 for most adult dogs & $300 for most puppies. Plus we charge the $15 microchip transfer fee on to the new owners & register the pets microchip when they are adopted. In most cases, our adoption fees don’t cover our costs for each pet & we appreciate any & all donations to help us with all these fees. I hope this answers your question, if not please call the Adopt Shop at 703/634-0880 between 10-6 M - Th.

Jose Minas | Sep 16, 2019
Prince William Humane Society, Homeless Animals Support Network (HASN) | Sep 16, 2019

Actually, we have 2 puppies at this time but they are not yet available for adoption until they have been vaccinated & spayed. Please follow our Facebook or Petfinder page to see what pets we have available. You can always call the Adopt Shop at 703-634-0880 to talk to one of our Match-Makers who will be happy to tell you exactly what we have at any point in time.

I no longer have the time to take care of my chinchilla and I dont want to take him to the shelter. Do you guys take exotics like him so he can find a better home?

NikkiJenX | Sep 16, 2019
Prince William Humane Society, Homeless Animals Support Network (HASN) | Sep 16, 2019

Sorry Nikki, we do not take exotics. We only have facilities for dogs and cats at our location. The P.W. County Animal Shelter can take them. Their contact info is 14807 Bristow Rd. Manassas, VA 20112 703-792-6465.

Do you have a list of foster parents for cats? I have a 2 year old boy tabby I got for a gift but my apartment doesnt accept cats. My lease is up in August this year. I just don’t want to give my cat away. I can provide food litter til I move.

Victoria, our fosters usually only take our pets for a short period of time while they recover from surgeries, await surgery, etc. We could put out an appeal on FB and see if anyone is interested. Please call our Adopt Shop 703-634-0880 between 10 - 6 Monday -Thursday if you are still in need.

We are P.W. Humane Society, a non-profit organization that assists the Shelter to get their homeless pets adopted. We are not the County Shelter and we only accept pet surrenders by appt., based on the size and behavior assessment and space available at the Adopt Shop. The P.W. Cty. Animal Shelter is located at 14807 Bristow Rd., Manassas, VA 20112 and pet owners can surrender their pets at that location. P.W. Humane Society transfers homeless pets from the Shelter to our Adopt Shop location weekly depending on space available. We do not euthanize any pets in our care. I hope that answers your question.

Are kids allowed at the facility? We are looking to foster and eventually adopt a pair of young cats or kittens when we find a good match. I put in an application already but I was wanting to bring in 2-3 of my girls to look at and

Danielle Davis | Sep 16, 2019

We love having children visit our facility with their parents. And, if you are interested in fostering, we would want you to bring your children in to meet our pets. We have a few younger kittens and cats at the Adopt Shop now and you are welcome to visit during our hours of operation, M - Th 10 - 6, Sat. 10 - 4, Sun 12 - 4 and we are closed on Friday.

I currently got a new job and the hours are long and I have to travel. She is really a good dog and is a people person even to be a pit. What is the process to put her up for adoption she does well by herself in the house for 8 hrs.

Katrina Bennett | Sep 16, 2019
Prince William Humane Society, Homeless Animals Support Network (HASN) | Sep 16, 2019

Katrina, so sorry to hear you can’t keep your dog. Have you considered a pet sitter/dog walker or doggy day care? Unfortunately all of our large kennels are occupied & we don’t have room for her. You would have to surrender her to the county shelter & perhaps we can transfer her once we have a large kennel available.

Sorry again to bother you guys I know you’re about to close soon , but about how long does it take for you guys to respond to the application? Thank you again.

Tamia Thorpe | Sep 16, 2018
Ellen Perkins | Sep 16, 2018

We are actually closed today and tomorrow for Labor Day. Our staff will be back responding to emails and requests on Tuesday. Thank you for your interest and patience!

Anyone know at what age they take voulenteers. I’m 13 and really want to help out, I love animals! Hope you guys can answer this thank you 😊

Tamia Thorpe | Sep 16, 2018
