A few months ago I stopped by Truck Tops & More to buy a topper for my truck. They didn't have the topper for my truck in stock, so I placed an order for the specific topper & paint color I wanted, paid for it in full with a credit card, and was told that it would take approx 6 weeks for the topper to arrive. The owner was the person who took my order, and he was very friendly & helpful. The entire transaction took (at most) 20 minutes. However, that same night I found a used topper in the color I wanted for sale on craigslist, so the following day (literally less than 12 hours later) I returned to Truck Tops and More, explained to them that I found a used topper that fit my truck, and told him (the owner) that I wanted to cancel my order. Immediately his attitude changed, and he went from friendly and helpful to irritable and grouchy. He told me he would issue a refund, less something like $90 because (according to him) he would still have to pay sales tax on the refunded order. As a former owner of several retail stores, I knew that was complete baloney--business owner's collect sales tax on behalf of the state government, and they pay the sales tax the following month, not immediately, and regardless, anytime a refund is issued, sales tax is always automatically refunded as well. Think about it--when you return an item to Home Depot, Walmart, or where ever, do they ever not return the sales tax as part of your refund? I tried to politely discuss this with the owner, but he refused to discuss the issue, and said I could either accept the partial refund or nothing at all. So I accepted the refund (less the $90 or how much ever it was) and left. On the way home I called my credit card company, explained what happened, and disputed the charge. The credit card company issued a dispute, and about a month later I received a letter from them stating that they had reversed the charges and credited the money back to my account. CLIFF NOTES: The owner is a nice & helpful guy when he's selling you something and making a profit off of you, but he's a jerk and an unethical liar when he loses a sale. I would never do business with a company or person who does business like this. For those of you who do buy something from Truck Tops & More, don't pay cash!!!
