An amazing restoration of a unique architectural treasure. This mansion by Wright for Darwin Martin is located in the picturesque Central Park neighborhood, laid out by Olmsted. They've finished the gardens, and after being established for a couple of years, they really look full, and enhance the landscape a lot. During the restoration, many of the original fixtures were donated back from families who acquired them when they were sold off (or perhaps scavenged while the building sat abandoned), really recreating the feel that Wright was really crafting when he designed it.

We enjoyed our 75 minute tour of the Martin House. Jim was a knowledgeable and wonderful tour leader. Highly recommend this experience if you’re interested in history or architecture!

Go..just do it. Fantastic restoration. Historic representation of FLR and Buffalo history. 54 million dollars poured into this gem. Learn alot about Darwin Martin and his place at Larkin. Gift shop had really nice collection.

We are open 7 days per week right now, but our days and times vary throughout the year which is why we resist posting on google. We are offering some specialty and self-guided tours on select evenings too. Your best bet is to visit martinhouse.org/tour and check out our offerings. There are links to the schedules for each tour type. Feel free to also call 716.856.3858 during regular business hours for assistance.
Thanks for reaching out! We have handicapped parking in a small lot behind our visitor center. Look for a blacktop driveway to the left of our Administrative Office at 143 Jewett, just to the left of the Martin House. Others choose to drop off in front on Jewett, where there is a ramp, and then find parking on the street. Either option should make visiting the site an easy option!
The Martin House is a six-building estate designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Martin Family. The site has a rich history, including years of abandonment and neglect. After a 20+ year restoration project, including a historic landscape, we offer a variety of public tours year round. We also host community events, lectures, and much more. We hope to welcome you to Buffalo and the Martin House!
We were told that everything in the house is either original or a replica/duplicate of what was originally in the home.
Lynn, We are currently open every day but Tuesday for tours, plus Thursday evening self-guided tours. Please note that our schedule changes throughout the year. The best place to go is martinhouse.org/tour to find offerings and schedules. And we encourage advance tickets which can be purchased online since many tours sell out. Feel free to call 716.856.3858 during regular business hours with questions.
Yes, we lost out on time we thought we had booked but got no confirmation and showed up and we're unable to go on the tour.
David, So sorry, I really couldn't tell you what the flowers are, they are quite beautiful. I am sure you could ask the caretaker at the property. Its been a few years since we were there, the memories of that amazing piece of architecture still walks through my mind. Such a privilege to wander through that home. And to have it right here in our awesome city! Sorry I couldn't help. Take care.
It was completed in 1905, I believe
You'll need to call them directly.
2hr $37, 1hr $19 (adult prices). ... One of the best Frank Llyod Wright houses I have visited.
There are two other FLW private homes in that general vicinity - both of which are beautiful to see
Might need a promo code, I'd call WNED
There are three homes, Gardener's, an example of lower income house style of time, and my favorite of the three, Barton House and built for Darwin's sister, representative of middle class at time, Darwin Martin's house, example of wealthy income at time. Check the site website and/or Wikipedia. The tour and history is WORTH IT!!!!
