Kumquat is a petit multiroaster coffee shop with a charming little patio. I always look forward to visiting Kumquat, because every visit feels reassuring and exciting. The reassurance stems from their consistent quality control and attention to details. Every cup is made and served as if it was a ritual. I especially like that they put the lid on the side, not on the cup. The only time I had something to complain about, and I did complain because their black napkins bleed, they changed to white when I visited again a week later. The excitement is because of Kumquat's understated creativity. On the menu you'll find staple signature coffee drinks: New England and Tennessee are two flavored lattes, and their famous Cloudy with a Chance of Peanut, a cream top iced latte with peanut butter foam and powder. The condensed 8oz drink with its rich peanut butter flavor feels almost like a dessert, and I truly enjoyed the special experience. Moreover, Kumquat creates signature tea drinks every month, and they always hit the right note of novel and balanced flavor with a dashing presentation. Like July's Lychee Hongcha Latte and August's Maldives Cooler. Kumquat finds a way to make drinks look good even in a plastic cup.

I love their regional focus, particularly on E/SE Asia. Having strict pandemic precautions in place for the first year and heck, partway into the second, was reasonable. But this is getting out of hand. Your mask protects you. You're not going to contract covid if you have to touch a ceramic cup that someone drank out of (why must everything be served in single use cups); makes sense for 7-11 and McDonald's, not for beverages at this price point. Ease up a bit: the science saved many of our lives so that we could enjoy it.

Yes, along with a couple other rules listed at the front door
I noticed masks being required along with social distancing, and only a few customers allowed inside at any given time. I felt very safe.
