Located cozily in the Yerba Buena lane, Amber ranks amongst one of the finest Indian eats in the Bay Area. Their food is authentic, rich and really well balanced in terms of spice level. The menu is extensive and gives you lots to try when you go back to it. As a North Indian native myself, I LOVE the Dal Makhani (called Dal Amber) - this is one of the few restaurants I’ve tried in the entire U.S. that pulls off the smoky, creamy and delicate texture of this special dish correctly.

This is my 3rd time visiting this restaurant (3/23/2022) and I have to say my expectations got considerably lowered compared to my previous outings here. As before, the ambience and location is really nice and it is good to see that the front desk manager is very active in coordinating tables with the staff. But now the cons(and there are so many!) : 1. the food standard has dropped in quality compared to my previous visits. This is not expected of a fine dining restaurant where you pay an exorbitant amount for the quality of food that you'd have got at a cheap take out. 2. The appetizers were alright but the main course disappointed. The Murgh Parda Biriyani was the WORST. The rice inside had broken off into mush . The chicken in it looked just steamed and lacking flavor. Then there's the goat curry. The meat was very coarse as compared to the last time I ordered it! 3. Finally, let's look at the desserts(this was my first time ordering them here): The Gulab jamuns were OK although for the price ($11), I expected 3 pcs as opposed to 2. And the mango parfait($11) was BAD. It was the exact same quality (and quantity) as a $1.49 Mango Yoplait cup from 7/11. They charge you extra $ just for putting a mint leaf on top of the Yoplait yoghurt. Honestly, had not my parents been with me that night and for the fact that we needed to get back to the hotel early, I'd have made it a point to report to the manager about how their quality has dropped and requested that they at least prepare the Biriyani again. I'd honestly recommend all patrons to never order any rice dish at this restaurant. I have personally learned my lesson: never again am I coming back here!

Great Indian food. The butter chicken was excellent. We came here for lunch and there was a buffet, so the service was a bit light. Presumably the dining experience for dinner would be better, with a more classy and romantic atmosphere. The quality of the food is good enough for us to come back again for dinner next time.

This is one of the only Indian restaurants that I like going to. Coming from India, I find most of the Indian restaurants not doing a great job in terms of bringing forth the diversity and uniqueness in taste associated with each different …

Everyone wore a mask (over the nose), gloves, and stood back a little bit when talking (not too far, but not hovering). They used to have cloth on the table (a year ago?) but I assume they stopped so they can clean the tables. There were empty tables or large gaps to keep people separate.
No parking. But a lot of paid lots around
