The reason why I've given this program two stars is because it's become apparent to me that once someone leaves this facility they wash their hands of them and provide zero resources or guidance on how to succeed outside of the locked down life they are forced to while at Delancy. They also have provided ZERO resources to help me with my friend who came to live with me after "graduating" and came to my house to get his life back together. I called this facility right when my friend left and was on his way to my house....they got my info and said that they'd call back but no one ever called. Then my friend relapsed so I called again for guidance, the guy I talked to said that they would call back but yet again they didn't call back. Not everyone is "cured: from this boot camp style program and to provide ZERO resources when people reach out to help a graduate of the program makes me wonder if this is more of a business or a drug rehab program

To get better and not have to do drugs anymore.
It all depends. Can you give us a call at 415-512-5104? We donβt do any kind of medical detox so if you are going to be sick, itβs easier if you kick first. Give us a call and we can be more helpful.
Due to the Privacy Laws, they will not give you that information. IF you are a family member, the resident will likely contact you, if doing so is a healthy decision. Remember, these people are trying to get THEIR lives together. They cannot be bogged down with issues at home or on the streets that they have absolutely no control over or might cause them to go backward instead of moving forward.

Call them
Generally, the resident can call home at around 6 months... This is to immediate family only. Many of the residents come from families that may not be the most healthy choice to become involved with... It is imperative to their success that when they do call home, they are not bombarded with problems they cannot possibly deal with while at the program. It has to be about them, and getting their lives together...
Best to call 415 512 5104 for these kinds of questions.
Delancey Street is not a twelve step program, drug program or substance abuse program. It has much more to do with learning how to be a caring, giving, responsible member of society. As the average resident has many years of incarceration, running the streets, burning every bridge they have ever had, it takes awhile for them to learn how to live and lead a decent life. Delancey Street Requires a minimum 2 year commitment upon acceptance.
First and foremost, you must have completely destroyed your life, burned every bridge ever made available to you, and a believable desire and willingness to do whatever is asked of you in which to help you become a better person. Each person that is accepted, is told exactly what will be expected of them prior to their acceptance and they must verbally accept the expected terms. You may be asked to do things that go against everything you have ever known. It will likely be some of the hardest things you have ever known... However, as long as you simply stay and take it day by day, you will become a better person, and it will become easier... It is in absolutely no way an easy time. However, if you have blind faith, and remember that when you were first interviewed, you promised you would do what was asked of you, it will become easier and you will begin to see yourself in a different way...It will slowly bit surely become easier and a smile will begin to take shape. It saved my life!
