Beautiful, hidden gem with open fields, flower fields, multiple picnic tables in separate areas, hiking trails, and a bathroom with running water right on the Blue Ridge Parkway!

Older park but great for camping. High elevation so cooler. Crowds seem less too. Tent camp site 44 shown.

The camping was the best experience I've had recently. The site was nice and close to the restrooms. No showers were available, and only cold water b to wash with. The lighting in the restrooms was terrible, and it looked as if the place hadn't been swept out or cleaned in awhile.

A truly unique area of NC. Rolling, idyllic hills with amazing views.

The Parkway is still closed North of mile marker 243 as of Sunday March 31. There are a lot of branches and debris in the roadway of the closed section so cleanup will likely take a while but you can park at Alligator Back Overlook or one of the other overlooks up to that point.
Yes call the park ranger asap
>>I have done hiking at doughton park what do you need to know p bailey, do you know if there is any type of shelter 9similar to the ones on the AT) at the back country camping area? And can you tell me if the Basin Creek trail is considered moderate or strenuous, and if it's reasonably well maintained/marked?
Not on state property... but thier is a game land really close by
No, they're still working on putting the funds together for needed renovations plus trying to find someone to operate it. The restaurant was supposed to reopen again this season but that has been delayed until next year due to Covid-19.
I'm not certain
The parkway website also has up to date closings. It is not currently open.
Yes the park service road leads up to the blue ridge parkway and I've seen horses on it. They park the trailers at the bottom in the camp ground area that is across the street
