My experience with this doctor was beyond atrocious! First off all, he was more than an hour late for my scheduled appointment. No apologies given afterwards either. Then when he finally did get around to deeming me worthy of his time, the appointment was over in less than 3 minutes! How can you properly treat or diagnose someone in so little time? By the way, he didn't even give me the right diagnosis for my particular condition and symptoms as I later found out after getting a second doctor's opinion. Jon Granato said I had urinary incontinence because of poor diet and exercise. As it later turns out, I had a kidney stone which this doctor did not correctly identify or diagnose. But I guess it's not really possible to accurately diagnose your patient if you're just zooming them in and out of your waiting room all day long. Mine was barely 3 minutes long, which accounts for such a hasty and inaccurate diagnosis. And my bad experience with this Jon Granato doesn't appear to be the only one either apparently. Save yourself the aggravation and annoyance. Find another urologist who truly cares about their patients, not just their pocketbooks. There are plenty out there, but this certainly isn't one of them.

My grandfather came to Doctor John J. Granato with intense pain. Also, his P.S.A. (protein specific antigen levels), for those wanting to know were becoming extremely elevated. The recommendation my grandfather got from his primary care was for biopsy, specialized urological care, et cetera. He’s elderly, so I went with him to the appointment. Let me just say this, ladies and gentlemen, the ‘service’ he received from Doctor Granato was deplorable. First off, the appointment was over and done with in like five minutes. I literally had enough time to sit down in a chair, pull out my phone, and the next thing I know: “he’s all set, see the front desk for a follow up appointment in 4 weeks.” Wait….what? That’s what the purpose of today’s visit was supposed to be for, I thought. Nope. Wrong. John Granato became very argumentative, even started raising his voice at me – even my 84 year old grandfather!? We couldn’t get a word in, this ‘doctor’ just continued to interrupt, talk over us, get even more disrespectful with a louder and louder tone. The part that really capped it off for me though was the following statement which Granato smugly and arrogantly made: “well, I’m the doctor wearing the white coat, so if you really think you know more than me, then by all means I encourage you to treat and diagnosis your grandfather…. I just told you that there’s nothing wrong with him, but you seem to swear that you know more than me…” I kid you not, those were this doctor’s EXACT WORDS… quote for quote. Needless to say, we both left and will NOT be returning back for that useless “4 week follow up appointment” which Granato had recommended. With the clear possibility that my grandpa’s heightened P.S.A. levels could be cancerous, we decided not to take the risk. Thankfully, we recently got a second opinion, and I’m happy to report that my grandfather is doing much better now. This original appointment with Granato was a couple weeks ago. Now with all that’s being done to help my grandfather by our new urologist, I’m grateful to say that he’s actually doing much better now. Just an added note, I work in the medical field myself, so find Granato’s entire approach to be very poor healthcare service – not to mention the rude and hostile aggression he exhibited towards my grandfather afterwards who was only trying to advocate for his health. I couldn’t say enough bad things about this doctor, but honestly I don’t want to waste another minute of my time or ounce of my energy describing what a cold, callous, RUDE, disrespectful, money-hungry “doctor” he is. Save yourself the effort and the aggravation though. Avoid this so-called medical “professional” at all costs. No way would I EVER recommend Dr. John J. Granato to anyone, not after the horrific and unacceptable treatment that my grandfather experienced.

Questions & Answers

Why do you enjoy smelling other people's urine? (Which is what he did to mine during urinalysis testing in his office: held the cup up to his nose and smelled it for a very long time! It was very gross. So my question is: do you enjoy doing this?

Yup! True... did the same thing to me - sniffed my sample after I was done with it too. Not really sure why he does it either.... maybe cuz it excites him? I don't know for sure, but yeah, it was super weird.... totally wasn't expecting that.

Does Cigna pay you extra money as their medical director to deny medically necessary claims to patients? Or do you just simply do that out of the "goodness" of your own heart?

Actually, yes they do. No, seriously.... just Google this man's name, and you will see that he is a Medical Director on Cigna's payroll. His main purpose is to basically find any imaginable reason to deny valid, medically necessary claims. The more claims that he denies after "peer-reviewing" (yeah, right.... give me a break!) them on behalf of Cigna, the more he probably gets in terms of a big bonus in his pocket. Don't ever trust this doctor, he has basically sold out his morals and his integrity to the insurance industry, and couldn't give a flying hoot about the actual patient! John Granato equals total disgrace to the medical profession's Hippocratic Oath!

Do not EVER seek this doctor out for true medical "care." Because evidently, he somehow believes that only the insurance companies' (not the patients) best interests matter? How unbelievably lame!

That's actually very true though. Because John Granato did the same thing with me. On behalf of CIGNA, he denied "medically necessary" post-cancer treatment for me, simply because he wanted to help the insurance company save a few dollars by not covering the cost of the procedure. This so-called "doctor" has no spine, no morals, no ethics, no scruples, and no soul. If you are currently one of his patients, then I implore you to find a different physician who actually does align their values with the Hippocratic Oath.
