You can still find good deals here, though in the last few years it's been much harder to find the good stuff. As Goodwill sells more of its donations online now, and sells mostly clothes and housewares in their physical stores. It's become less commonplace to find those rarer and more valuable goods for cheap. When you do come across such items, they'll often be marked near the average prices on eBay. It's a disgusting trend that even other thrift stores have picked up more and more recently. Honestly, it defeats the entire purpose of thrifting. Goodwill needs to stop price gouging and screwing over their customers. In just the past few years they've: 1. Reduced the senior discount (used to be valid everyday at 10% off) to just one day a week (Wednesday, 15% off) 2. Got rid of their color tag sales (used to rotate a different color each month so that items over a month old in the store would be 25% off, and before that 50%) 3. Stopped having most other sales (used to be almost every holiday and when other stores had major sales, and more types of goods were on sale) —now only major holidays and almost always clothes and shoes only 4. Stopped accepting exchanges (up to 7 days after purchase) on all purchases (no returns, no exchanges, no nothing anymore) [What if you buy an appliance or other device and it doesn't work??] 5. Moved more and more of their donated goods exclusively online (beefed up their e-commerce site and downgraded their stores to carry far fewer items—especially those of higher value) 6. Have the audacity to jack up their prices (in some cases almost as much as new products) [Example: a retro game system with cables and controller and a few games would be $30 to $40 a few years ago, now $90 to $100, and movies and music media would be $1 to $3, now $2 to $4—you can often find them cheaper new at the Dollar Tree and on clearance at Half Price Books for $1 to $3. I know I might be nitpicking here, but I think most people would agree that even taking the pandemic and inflation into consideration, what Goodwill has been doing now for years is totally unfair to those who rely on thrifting to survive, as well as those who are looking for bargains (Goodwill is no longer a good option). My hope is that they get it together and make things right again for their customers. They used to be such a good place to hunt for bargains. Now it seems they have done everything aside from putting the final nail in the coffin for thrifting, and they're only about two steps away from it. It's a terrible trend that Goodwill started. Other thrift stores such as the Salvation Army have followed in their footsteps (also restricting senior discount to just one day (Thursday) and raising prices). What used to be a fun and thrilling pastime (the thrill of the hunt), has turned into a stressful and frustrating case of "Oh, this is such an amazing find! Ugh, but wait, they're asking way too much! Such a rip off!!!" P.S. Please treat your employees better!
