Questions & Answers

My son had insurance thru FL Healthy Kids.I missed the renewal period and didn't send the paperwork in time so his insurance was canceled. Now I need to take him to the doctor...Do I need to pay for the consultation? Will the insurance reimburse me?

You need to have active insurance for a policy to cover a medical expense. Unfortunately this doctor visit will NOT be covered.

When does Short Term Insurance make Sense?

William Kohn | Sep 14, 2019
William Kohn | Sep 14, 2019

Short Term Insurance is one of the ways people throughout Florida to include Pompano Beach, Deerfileld Beach, and Boca Raton can get health insurance coverage outside the Obamacare / Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment period. That period is from November 1, 2019 through December 15, 2019 for the year 2020. People look at Short Term Insurance because it can be lower in cost that ACA coverage and you can buy Short Term Insurance for any period from under 6 months to as much as 3 Years. Policies generally are PPO or Indemnity Plans. They generally have deductibles which can range from as low as $1,000 to as high as 12,000. Many of the plans have co-insurance after that but several carriers offer policies with 100% after the deductible to some policy maximum. Depending on the plan you select the policy maximum may be as little as $250,000 to as much as $2,000,000. In addition some plans have annual maximum's which may limit coverage. When is my insurance payment considered late?

Florida Health Agency | Sep 14, 2019
William Kohn | Sep 14, 2019

The answer is the day after it is due. If you pay by credit card, make sure you see the payment every month. If you pay by Automatic Bill Payment from a bank account, make sure you see the withdrawal. The insurance company holds you responsible, even if they make a mistake. Grace periods on initial payments are only ten days. If you miss the grace period you will typically lose your insurance. Other grace periods can be 30 days or more, but again this varies from company to company. Don’t put yourself at risk, please.

Can I still get health insurance outside of open enrollment?

Florida Health Agency | Sep 14, 2019
William Kohn | Sep 14, 2019

In many cases, the answer is yes. If you have a Special Election Period then the answer will always be yes, if you act quickly. If the answer is NO and you do not receive a subsidy then many individuals and families can qualify for a non-marketplace plan. We also have association plans for many individuals who would like coverage and are small businesses or self-employed. Give us a call to learn more!
