The priest was rude. We walked in 5 minutes before Mass, on time in my book with 6 kids, no less. The “pews” are chairs with no kneelers. There were empty seats everywhere but not 8 together so we had to split up. Instead of asking the congregation to stand and move toward the center aisle to free up seats, from the back of the church, the priest was visibly irritated and frustrated and began waving his arms furiously to get the ushers to move us out of the entrance way. He then talked about the charism of gentleness displayed by his order, the Oblates during his homily or maybe after Mass. That’s funny. Hypocrisy in priests and a lack of reverence continues to wreak havoc on our universal church. Additional issues: no receiving on the tongue still (aren’t we past these silly Covid fears yet? Had there been any evidence to support receiving on the hands is less likely to transmit Covid?), everyone is instructed to use hand sanitizer in unison at one point (lol), and there is only one visible area of entry and exit off to the left of you are facing the altar. Scary considering all of the shootings going on. Finally, the tabernacle isn’t visible, and the priest discussed his love for theater during the closing. That gave me a weird vibe. All in all, as a practicing Catholic visiting from another area in NC, I definitely did not feel this was a reverent, gentle, or welcoming parish/priest.

We have been to this church on our way to North Carolina a few times now and it’s always. Welcoming and friendly church. We enjoy our visits and having. A nice place like this to stop and spend our Sunday’s on our way through. Highly recommend
