The Canoe Livery is washed out and very difficult to portage there now. About a half a mile upstream there is a colony of large cranes nested in stretch of Brush Creek. I counted around 30 nests and at least two dozen birds.

Recently hiked the Buzzardroost Rock Trail on a beautiful blustery day. It was a great mix of ecosystems from woodland to prairie that ended with a great overlook of the Brush Creek Valley. It was an excellent 4.4 mile hike (2.2 out and …

Pleasantly surprised & enjoyed the scenery & nature. Did not have a map of the preserve, and lost reception of the one on cell access. Very little help as far as signage from the road to any trails or points of interest.

The perfect place for immersing yourself in nature. Gorgeous scenery surrounds you throughout the Preserve and its trails. Cedar Falls and the Gorge at Cedar Run is a must see - the perfect time to hike this trail is when water flow is at …

It will be busier than non holidays, but we went on the fourth of July last year and the Buzzardroost parking lot was full. We saw other hikers about every 10 minutes on that trail. Didn't anyone on the other trails.
I think Dennis is correct. The visitors center is a good place to start your visit.
I know that they have boat ramps, however, I can't recall if fishing was allowed there.
The closest I found was at Shawnee State Park. It's about a 15 minute drive but not primitive. Flushing toilets and hot showers. The sites are fairly small so maybe primitive by today's RV standards.
Pretty sure that is a no. It's a nature preserve, and there are signs with all the flora and fauna they are trying to protect. Dogs aren't even allowed.
The signs that are posted say dogs are not allowed, however people take them anyway. I hsve never taken mine.
Shortest trail is approx 2 miles round-trip. The look out is at the top of the trail approx 1 mile. Moderate difficulty. Can fish and kayak. Would recommend shawnee lake/state park for somewhere easy to drive to.
You can camp at Shawnee State Park, maybe 15 miles east of there. Good sized campground with hot showers...
Yes! The Edge of Appalachia Preserve allows public hunting on 2,400 acres of preserve property located south of St. Rt. 125, approximately seven miles east of West Union on Waggoner Riffle Road. Contact the main office.
