Yes, the HHW Facility accepts car batteries from residents, FREE of charge. No, the HHW Facility does NOT accept tires. The County's Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), which is located about a mile or two away from the HHW Facility on Lovelace Road does accept tires. At this time, the Lovelace MRF will accept up to eight automobile or light truck tires from RESIDENTS, FREE of charge. Waste delivered to Lovelace along with tires will be charged at normal rates. The HHW Facility accepts unwanted medications from residents of the County with the exception of controlled substances, which are NOT accepted. The facility also accepts small electronics. The sleep apnea machine may fall under this category depending on the size of the unit. If the unit is around the size of a computer tower, they will take it. If it is larger than that, they may not. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility does NOT accept refrigerant devices for disposal, however, RESIDENTS of San Joaquin County may dispose of up to 2 refrigerant devices (air conditioners, refrigerators, etc) at County solid waste facilities FREE of charge. Facility locations include the Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility in Manteca and the North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill in Lodi. Appliances must be delivered empty of contents. At this time the County's Lovelace MRF and the North County Recycling Center and Sanitary landfill will accept up to FOUR automobile or light truck tires from RESIDENTS, FREE of charge. Tell the cashiers that you saw the coupon. This program is reliant on state funding, so this may change at any time. Waste delivered along with tires will be charged at normal rates.

The HHW will accept smoke detectors as long as they do not contain radioactive material. The HHW Facility is prohibited from taking radioactive materials by law. Look for the radioactive symbol on the device. If it has the symbol, the detector’s manufacturer is required by law to properly dispose of radioactive material, so please send it back to the manufacturer.
