When at the fork of the loop, on the way up, take the left hand trail. It is slightly steeper and longer but that means two things, by the time you reach the antennas at the peak, you're a little more than halfway. And since the last half of the trail is less steep, your calves and ankles and knees will thank you on the way down. We brought a couple of first timers on this trail and a baby. It's doable within 3 hours at a walk-rest-walk-rest pace (2 hours up and 1 hour down). It was a clear day but the breeze halfway up the mountain kept us cool. There are few trees for shade as you get higher. Bring lots of water.

This a nice short loop for intermediate hikers and families. On top you will have a great view of the city and perhaps the ocean on a clear day.
