my 3 year-old kid, who had never been in a swimming pool before today and is scared of getting water in her eyes and ears, was enrolled off the waitlist in the beginners swim class. the instructor told her to jump right in the deep end. when my kid did so, she floundered with her mouth underwater for 5-10 seconds while the teacher talked to someone else before realizing my kid was struggling. my kid drank lots of pool water and choked and cried while my husband watched from the waiting room, trying to figure out how to get back to the pool but ultimately unable to help her. i don't know if the teacher wasn't told she had a new student (how?), or didn't realize she had a new student (how?), but regardless, the poor communication creates obviously dangerous situations that this center needs to rectify.
