This church does have good components which is why I give it a two. It is a diverse environment and has good children’s programs. If you are looking for a highly homophobic, fat phobic, and sexist church then this place will be right for you. There aren’t many young adults in the church and this is probably why. For what appears to be a progressive church, it is backwards, incredibly clicky and hierarchical. The pastor isn’t approachable and is hard to get to. He always has a bodyguard between him and people. In the many years that I’ve attended the church, I’ve never heard of an incident but he is literally put on a pedestal. The way the sexism appears is in subtle ways, there is only one female usher but the pastor made an announcement that they are phasing out female ushers and women can’t be parking attendants. The music ministry often plays the same music all of the time which can be frustrating and tiring. The messages can be good, I’ve enjoyed the breakdown on tithing and also some of the external pastors that are brought in.

I have found the service during the pandemic and think it is sound Christian preaching. But I do not like that the pastor encouraged people to gather in groups for Thanksgiving and said that he invited 35 people to his house. As a leader he should look out for the health of his community. The research has shown that private gatherings are the biggest covid spreaders. He criticized Cuomo for being a dictator in limiting gatherings but Cuomo is not doing it to take away the pastor's 1st amendment rights, he is doing it to prevent unnecessary deaths. As Christians we should choose life before we choose our right to eat a turkey leg with uncle jim!
