If you're planning a flight over this airport (KHZY), STOP HERE for fuel. If you're planning a flight over this airport and run into bad WX, STOP HERE!! The facility is super clean and the people are more than super helpful! In my case, I ran into a lake effect snowstorm over Lake Erie on my way from Niagara Falls (KIAG) to St. Louis (KSUS) and diverted to the closest airport KHZY. It was after normal business hours but that didn't matter. I called the number on the digital scrolling signage and Brian answered the phone. He graciously opened the locked door remotely and told me to help myself to anything I need; Pilot Lounge, TV, Extremely Comfortable Furniture, Bathrooms/Shower & Keurig Coffee - he said, "Just make yourself at home." And I did! After "Waiting it Out" I called Brian back and asked if he had any ideas on how I could get to the closest hotel because it looked I was grounded for at least the night. He said, "Yup - we have a crew car you can use." ... and 15 minutes later "Super" Bill showed up. He asked if I wanted to put my Piper in one of their heated hangars for the night and I took him up on it. After we put the airplane away, I threw my bags in his car and he took me to another heated hangar where the crew-car was. BTW - the crew-car was nicer than many of our cars - trust me. I grabbed "one" of my two bags and he handed me a key to the hangar, gave me directions to the closest hotel and said it's all yours - make yourself at home! And I did! Off to the hotel I went. I checked into the hotel and was missing a bag - I had left it in Bill's car during the vehicle exchange. You wouldn't think you could lose your bags flying private - well, I did and it was definitely my fault. I was so surprised that my plane was in a heated hangar and the crew-car was already warm!!! Good thing "Super" Bill gave me his business card and said, "Call him if I need anything..." I did. 10 mins later I had my bag, hotel, a car and a restaurant/bar close by... Well, I literally made myself at home because the never-ending snowstorm lasted 4 days/3-nights. I know the town of Austinburg, OH better than most now and I truly enjoyed staying there thanks to Brian & Bill (and everyone else) that makes Northeast Ohio Regional Airport KHZY one of my top airports in 35-years of flying!
