The train ride is enjoyable and the area is picturesque. It felt like a trip through time when we arrived at the excursion point of Barthell, KY. The town is a long abandoned mining town. We did not sign up for the tour of the mine that is available but did enjoy photographing the area during the two hour lay over. A portion of the track is washed out past the mining town and has been for a while. The additional track time will be a welcome addition to the experience.

What a great adventure. The tour guide explained everything, was very detailed and had a great sense of humor. Was a perfect day for a train ride. They stressed the warnings of safety. Just wish there was a little more to do once we were at the stop.

It was a sweet adventure for the kiddos. The participant characters were genuinely involved with their passengers. I would have liked to have seen the North Pole be more of a presentation, however Santa did board the train and hand out the …

When I was growing up there was a train that ran through our town, but in the late 80's / early 90's the train no longer ran and the tracks were taken out. Watching the train, made me want to ride one and I finally got the chance. …

25.75 per person, discount for seniors and children
Depends on the time of year and if there is a special event. I think that reservations are only necessary for special events. But ticket costs vary slightly. $20+
No but you can bring a lunch basket and drink
Dogs are allowed on the train and the Big South Fork National Park.
Yes! We took the train last month. See my review. Photos included.

I don't know. I recommend de Vagón without Windows en have another with Windows that can be opened. Thank you with the coal mines in Lumber. Have a lot history pictures maqueta en one musician Where you can go with the same price of the ticket Duc is outside the train station
Yeah they are
Because that is what it costs to run it. Non profit doesn't mean it doesn't make money, it means the money goes for a cause, like preserving a train line.
60+ & I believe they are 25$
It no longer takes you to the Blue Heron mining camp. You stop in Bartell mining camp now. Its a 30 minute train ride down and a 2 hour layover. You can pay to tour the mine. Or there's a small free tour you can do. I did think the ride back went a little faster. We've rode it twice in the last month.
According to the website, pets on a leash are allowed for regular trips.
Ticket prices vary depending on what you want to include. We did all options, the train, lunch, and tour and it was $60 per person.
According to the website, tickets are still available today: https://bsfsry.com/
We went on Sunday. It was approximately 3 hours and 8 miles. 4 miles forward to attractions and 4 miles in reverse to return. It was a great time!!
I'm not sure. You'll have to call and see.
It is handicap friendly. Not sure of the cost of the upcoming season, check back in April.
This train is just for tourists seeing Mine 18 and Barthel mining town in Mccreary County, Ky.
Yup.
At the train station box office. Check out the museum.
I agree should be fine with those seats should be able to see everything without a problem
Goes to old mining town and past some then back to start
Dusk till dark
You can do either I would recommend calling the number on the website to see if the train is filling up...and take it from there
No but they have restrooms and snack shops and a restaurant at the train stations the ride on the train is only a 22mile ride to the bottom of the mountain where they park for an hour or so with restrooms snack shop park rangers and exhibits of the mining town. Then you ride back to the station
$28 adults. $25 seniors(60+) $18 children(3-12) under 2 free.....check Fares/South Fork Railroad in case of changes
The train runs from April to November....depending on time of year 1 or 2 trips daily

Look up the Website they are different price for different tours, They have small discount for military kids groups and another ones
The train is a short ride, just a couple of miles. You can skip the train and drive to the coal camp yourself also. Typically runs only once or twice a day.
Yep...they will work with you, for another ride on a different date or a full refund altogether. Although it is rarely cancelled....it does happen though
It depends on the event. For instance, the Polar Express will be more than the every day events.
You don't have to in the week but in the weekend it's is better buy the ticket before
Rachel go to the Web site. Depending on package and if senior discount applies. Children under a certain age could be free or discounted. They also offer special seasonal train trips.
