I ended up with ptsd and more anger issues. Don’t send your kid here, send them to therapy and give them more care and attention instead.

From the pictures that were posted of our grandson by Mr. Royal, there are no stars leading these young men and women. SHAME! On every “leader” at this so called academy. Respectfully Billy and Pennie

BEWARE! BEWARE! Do not send your kids to freestate challenge academy. The kids safety is not the number one priority. Many kids are being assaulted, hit with locks in socks and the sergeants are doing nothing about it. I have spoke to the director Mr Dickerson and he is a joke! He told me that no kid has been assaulted in 7 years that he has been their. Last night my son was assaulted by 2 other cadets and has a dent in his head and a lot of swelling and a concussion. This happened on 16 Aug 2022. My son is in fear of his life being there and has no trust in the staff. This happened while staff was there. The director will give the run around and will not admit any wrongdoings that are going on under his watch. Please parents spread the word and do not allow your child to become a victim.

It would take longer for the cadet to recieve the letter. In the student handbook theres an address in which you can send letters.
There are "Family Days" throughout the program and a week off for break towards the end of the program.
It's a quasi Military Academy for at risk Youth between the ages of 16-19
Contact a recruiter Mrs.Anita or Mr.Brown....email them or call and leave a message they will be in touch to break down every question you have ...they start a new session every 22 weeks....so for date contact them...you can still start with downloading the application that is online...once you do that and scan one of the forms back they will send you an invite to there next orientation and then you can speak to someone in person about the details of your situation....good luck my son graduates in June🤗☺😉
Ma'am you can bring the documents the day of once you drop off your child. And it'll be handle from there on.
The program is 22 weeks, you learn military style discipline, structure and customs and courtesies. After the 1st two weeks, the cadets go to classes that help them to test for their GED.
Yes they do.
Yes you just have to go to the MVA and send in the receipt, and when you get it just fax a copy. That's what I did with my daughter
Google ...freestate academy...follow up with Mrs.Anita or Mr.Brown they do call back give them 48 hrs.to respond...I have a cadet there....it is a great program if you want to learn discipline for yourself to grow...I hope this helped...I wish you much success in your endeavors... Email them print up forms on website fill them out and find out when there next orientation is...blessing 😘😍🤩🤩🤩
I know they do if they take medication.
Freestate is a voluntary program. You can but eventually the teen has to voluntarily agree to do it.
Only for one weekend, and towards the end of the program.
I just wanna say thx to Mr. Hollaway for his leadership efforts, also taking on one of the most “pertinent” positions given. Freestate for most youth is one of the only non-profit organizations left still standing offering such an excellent experience, to be given a second chance at life isn’t always an alternative for our African American community. Society maybe appearing to have such programs but I will agree undoubtedly with all of my exhaustion of completion of 7 consecutive programs, a Stat docket, reported runaways, repeated suspensions, meaningless judicial processes, and most importantly all of the new laws that exist... it has become an extremely daunting challenge to “rear your children”!!! Although I was given alotta additional legwork three (3) days prior to the June orientation/admissions which disallowed my daughter to be selected I will continue my optimism and pray that ANY/ALL documentation will be available for “THE LAST ALTERNATIVE” for my daughter. #PlzHelpAmen
5 months. They get the results of the diploma graduation day. If they pass it will come in the mail within 3 weeks after.
The board of education would have a record of his graduation and diploma regardless of where he graduated from. I would contact them.
I'm not sure, give them a call.
8775 Glory Street, PO Box 176 Bldg. E4230 Beal Road, APG-EA Gunpowder, Maryland 21010
The cadet will get in contact with you when they can
Yes. The parent or guardian can remove the child from the program at any time.
Walmart, Ross, Amazon
To my knowledge, no there is not. The age requirement to attend the program is 16 - 18 years old. You can find more information about our program and it's eligibility criteria here: https://freestatemil.maryland.gov/eligibility-criteria/
But it has to be in standard when you wear your uniform.
The program is 22 weeks long. There are 2 family days normally around the 6th-8th week and around the 11th/12th week. You will go home for exodus break. The Jan-Jun class goes the weekend of memorial day and the Jun-Dec class goes on break for Thanksgiving
No. You have to be 16 to 19
The program is voluntary. If the child really does not want to stay or refuses to go, the program will NOT force the child to participate. The parent will have to come get them.
Graduation for Class 52 is June 15th however, you may also want to check with your cadet's case manager to ensure you'll have enough tickets
It's for youth 16-19
They get time almost everyday to write letters. They don't get their 1st phone call for 2 weeks after arrival and every 2 weeks thereafter.
We will be back at work Jan 2 at 830am
Sure, POC R. Blue.
No cost to you the Parent or Guardian, but you must have your child insured and all items on packing list purchased before the initial processing phase.
They must be between 16-19 yrs old. Visit the website for the full list of qualifications and contact information at www.freestatemil.maryland.gov
Maryland Freestate Academy age limit is 16-18.....however your child can be enrolled if he/she is turning 16 or 19 while in the program they can be enrolled
He will need to be accepted into freestate first before disenrolling from high school.
You have to be disenrolled from current HS before starting Program.
You will be fine hand carrying documents...
The age requirement is a minimum of 16 years old by the date of the first Saturday after the class starts. Classes begin in January and July.
No, they do have to have medical insurance
She can still enroll. Contact the recruiter, Mrs. Anita Lewis. Her information is on the website.
Really cause you been there for a min so if you piss hot what have you been doing. SSG Griff
Yes, but you will surely work for it. I'm the Former Commandant
Freestate Challenge Academy E 4230 APG Gunpowder Md.21010
The Challenge Academy that your child can attend is based on residency. Freestate Challenge Academy is for Maryland residents and is located on Aberdeen Proving Ground- Edgewood ... Capital Guardian Youth Challenge Academy is for D.C. residents and located in Laurel, MD
No
How old is he
Our cadets receive a MD High School Diploma if they successfully pass the GED test. It will look like any other diploma issued by a traditional high school without the additional two signatures from a principal and another school representative. We have cadets who have entered into the armed services, however each branch is different and the needs of the service may change and may require 15 college credits if their diploma is awarded thru our program.
Some of the young adults there are from DC and there is also a FreeState location in Laurel
Go to the Maryland.gov website or Google FreeState Challenge program recruitment
Yes. The Cadet will send you a letter and it will have the information on the envelope on his/her exact location.
