I wondered why the rating was so high - they're having their employees rate the facility five stars - disgusting! I've reported the numerous reviews as conflict of interest. DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS FACILITY, SPECIFICALLY FROM MY EXPERIENCE, WHEN THEY CANNOT ADVOCATE FOR THEM SELVES!!! I am updating my review for the final time, my mother was at this facility in 2020 and passed away in December 2021 after leaving this facility September 2021, spending only a short time being cared for in her final days at a regular nursing home not specific to dementia. When looking for a place for your loved one with cognitive decline specifically seeking out dementia care please VISIT the facility before placing your loved one there as it may be shocking as it was for me. During covid I could not visit before hand and have never been in that situation to pick a nursing home from a hospital bed, they had a bed open and I was thankful but I did not understand what I was putting my mom into. Please visit and fully investigate what the facility offers before sending your loved one for instance they don't have a regular doctor on the fourth floor they have someone who comes to visits but is not there daily, and the doctors from the other floors assist which causes errors in communication as it did with my mother. Also, the constant flow of new staff was an issue with communication about my mother's issues. I understand it costs money to staff and it's hard to find staff but do something because it is seriously needed on that fourth floor when my mother was there. There are too many dementia on that floor with state regulations of only 1 nurse 2 aids on a floor at minimum. They need way more staff just for meal supervision and medication let alone care for the actual patients (at that time). I wanted my mother to be in an open unit because I was worried she would want to wander but seeing it first hand is very shocking and over stimulating and loud for someone with her diagnosis. My mother worked for the state for 30 years advocating for her patients, while I grew up at home she sat in hospitals with people with dementia or who were autistic or who were severely mentally ill advocating for their medical care. She held people down for hours and hours while they bit her and punched her in fits trying to injure others and themselves, never overmedicated them into a comatose state. She was all I had. I have no father, no siblings, no grandparents. . What I asked for my mother was BASIC CARE as I could not provide it in my home with my three young children. I didn't care her belongings went missing because everyone had dementia it makes sense, I didn't care it was hard to get ahold of someone because they were doing their job! I complained about the cleanliness they attempted to resolve, I complained about a broken piece of furniture in her room, they resolved. I complained about the medications being changed without discussing with her POA and Proxy. I had trouble with what I had perceived as overmedication by the unit to subdue my mother which I felt was adverse to her health which ended up being so as documented by the doctor from the 3rd floor while he worked with her that she was suffering from being overmedicated in the end as well as injuries from falls and dehydration and malnutrition. But when my mom started falling, stopped being able to talk, stopped being able to stay awake, stopped being able to drink and eat they should have done more and it was devastating to her health. Please research the facilities you are considering online and in person before choosing!

My mother-in-law passed away on 6/26/22 at Capstone. Her roommate at the time said she heard her fall out of bed at 3 am and the roommate pushed the call button. She told the family that staff did not come in until after 6:30 where they found her deceased. They called the family and said they were doing CPR but in the 10 minutes it took her daughter to arrive, there was already significant unexplained bruising around her neck and blood pooling in her face. There was almost never staff visible or available when family visited and there were no phones for residents in the rooms to call for help. My mother-in-law once demonstrated how long it would take for staff to respond to the call button. In the two hours we were there no one ever answered her call. The bathroom was out of toilet paper and there were no staff to be found on the entire first floor to get her a new roll. The main door is always left open and the front desk is not always manned so people can come and go without checking in, being masked, being tested for Covid. Maureen's oxygen tubing was not long enough to reach into the bathroom, so whenever she had to use the bathroom she had to remove her oxygen. Her daughter once asked a staff member for assistance with her oxygen and the staff member handed her a pulse ox meter and said, "Here, you're my nurse today." When the family was present with my mother-in-law's body the roommate kept trying to tell them that the staff never responded to the call button and staff told her to "Shut up" and told the family that the roommate was "just hallucinating." They refused to request an autopsy and the family could not afford to pay for one themselves, so there is no forensic evidence available beyond pictures the family took of the bruising around her neck and blood pooling. This facility allows garbage to accumulate, smells like feces and urine and is severely understaffed. When Maureen's daughter attempted to obtain her records as the health care proxy she was told she could not have anything and to "call a lawyer." We are afraid more people will needlessly die from neglect at this facility. Maureen Wilsey was a beloved mother and grandmother and she did not deserve to die in a facility full of neglect and cruelty. Please do not place your loved ones in this death trap.
