These people are great and provide a much needed service to our community! I feel that if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. These people are definitely part of the solution! Nothing for free, residence are required to participate in meeting and seek employment, counselors are superheroes helping residence daily with everything! I mean everything! God bless them and this shelter. Donate, volunteer, something! If you care for our homeless that is.

This was a really nice and clean and safe environment to get the things I needed to get back on my feet again and thanks to all the staff for making it possible.

FSS has ‘good intentions’ and I give them kudos for their service, BUT ….. This place is like a cross between ‘Mental Ward’ and Jail’. You have security keeping you from any freedom. You cannot come and go as you please. You must get approval for everything! (Even to go to your own car or just take a 15 min walk INSIDE the fenced in compound!) You get ‘1’ hour to use their computer, but you must show you have done 25 job searches each day. They do not have WiFi (like the website said they did, NOT) You do get 3 meals a day, a bed and shower… BUT…. Lights out at 10pm, Lights back on at 6am, breakfast at 7am-7:45am… Dorms lock at 8am then you MUST stay in the common area… Lunch 12-12:45, Dinner, 6pm-6:45. You MUST wear your mask at all time, EXCEPT when you eat (sitting right next to each other) and when you go back into the dorms (where you walk around and hang around with each other. No mask then) Also, no help with getting a job, that’s all on you. Chores every night at 7! And you MUST participate in the indoor exercises and ‘development lessons’. Like I said, ‘cross between ‘Mental Ward’ and Jail’!!! At times the staff will treat you disrespectfully yet they have ‘zero tolerance’ for the residents disrespecting them. If you don’t do as they wish, ‘You’re out’ and you’re not allowed to come back! Even if you ask nicely to be discharged, NOPE they get an attitude and treat you like trash!

Amazing place. The people there work really hard to help achieve your goals!

Contact FirstStep Shelter first to see if there are spots available. There are overnight shelters. Also try the Salvation Army. Good luck!
When I went to First Step, I went to make a donation. Perhaps you can go to the nearest church or the Salvation Army at LPGA.
Yes you can park you vehicle at the shelter while living there
You would have to call first.
No children. Try hope place.
You have to have a referral and it flow in there that's not good at all. It is not safe on the outside it should be a shelter were all of us can go inside .
Are there any openings I’m and Need I need a ride there I need a one-way Greyhound bus ticket If accepted Covid 19 😷
No, animals of any kind even service animals are not allowed
This was set up by a former volunteer and is not monitored by the shelter staff. Please visit their website for phone and email contact information at www.firststepshelter.org
I work for a social service agency, and I get calls all of the time from homeless adults. I do not meet with them in person, so how do I get them to sign a referral form if I fill one out?
My PA, just recommend this place for me, she'll include a "Letter" of referall for me.
Go to The Neighborhood Center
They can take contraband
No thanks though
Come in Mon - Fri and drop them off with security.
Facility is relatively new. No appointment needed just show up if you need some help.
First Step told us that they only took people who were refered.
I have NO idea, I do know you are going to need a referral. Google the shelter get there number and give them a call.
