We had two adorable, wonderful ferrets that we unfortunately couldn't keep with us due to moving somewhere which wouldn't allow them, but thankfully, and we can not express enough how thankful we are that we were able to surrender them to Karen and her fantastic rescue operation. Selfless people like this don't get enough recognition and I'm wholly grateful for the peace of mind we have received thanks to her. We're beyond elated to know our loveable little furry stink snakes will find the happiness, love, and home they deserve under Karen's watch.

Good people who take great care of the ferrets and thankfully don’t just adopt them to anyone, it’s very difficult and time consuming raising ferrets and takes special people to do what this place does, it’s second to none

Some are on a raw diet, some eat kibble foods. Nutrition is so very important to maintain a healthy ferret. Unless you would entertain feeding a raw meat diet, we ask our adopters to select 2 different kibbles from either the green or blue category in the kibble ferret food analysis chart and blend together. The reason is that ferrets are imprint eaters. There may be other good selections available, but you'll need to read the ingredients. Just because a product is marketed/labeled for ferrets, does not mean that the product is necessarily good for them. Food should not have a grain or vegetable listed in the top 6 ingredients, and should ideally be at least 40% protein and 20% fat. This link may help you decide what is best. https://ferretedu.weebly.com/ferret-food-charts.html?fbclid=IwAR1776QIxxlHQPcVQHcrZe5CTXHNpK4XVyHN21NU11jSH9Jumauh6GYhPTk
Yes, have several available. The Midwest Critter Nation cages are $180. The Prevue 4 levels is $70. Have more, and can be viewed on Craigslist Fredericksburg site. Have more too, not yet posted.
Yes, an appointment is necessary. We are a private shelter and do not have the staff to support open hours of visitation. Most any day/time is fine, we will work to your schedule. Just let us know when you would like to visit so we can ensure our availability.
If you PM us, we can send a list of ferret rescues as there may be one closer to you. Ferrets are not recommended for children under the age of 10. It would be unrealistic to expect anyone under the age of 12 to properly care for ferrets. Ferrets are high maintenance, often too much for even teenagers.
Our ferrets are kept in MIDWEST Ferret Nation cages. All ferrets get play time outside their cages and are socialized in large area play pens each and every day. Our goal is to locate permanent loving homes for all of them.
Our ferret adoption fees are based on the age of the ferret, ranging $140 for babies to $0 for seniors. Some exceptions do apply. There are significant discounts for groups/pairs. All our ferrets are spayed/neutered and descented and up to date with distemper vaccinations.
Sure! We always are in need of volunteers to help clean cages, feed or just play with the shelter ferrets. All ages welcome, but those under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
A few of our ferrets are posted on PetFinder and Adopt-A-Pet websites. Best to see our Facebook page.
Adoption fees vary based on the age of the ferret, ranging $140 for babies to $0 for seniors. There are significant discounts for pairs/groups. For example, a pair of 1 yr olds are $160 - cheaper than the cost of a single ferret in a pet store.
We always need volunteers.
Yes, we have many female ferrets available. There are currently 40 ferrets at our shelter.
