I grew up at Max’s in Marin and the first time I came here, it was fantastic. The matzo balls were small but I got two of them which were closer to the amount I remember. It tasted exactly how I remember from my childhood. However, today it was off. I’m not sure if there was a new chef or if I got the last dregs of their latest batch, but the broth didn’t taste quite as flavorful as normal, there was no butter with my rolls and the bowl I ordered was mostly over cooked chicken with just a couple noodles and veggies tossed in. I also got only one very small matzo ball for my bowl (pictured). While I still absolutely recommend them and will return, I’m a little sad about this trip and suggest other take out customers check their order before they leave.
