I have been planning to write this review for a long time, since l feel that l have to warn others about it. Please do me a favor and do not pay attention to the positive reviews you see here. I am not saying that the women who posted them are lying. They aren't. But they did not lose weight because of JumpstartMD, or because of help from them. These women only lost weight because of their own motivation and hard work. Now, as for JumpstartMD, here is how it works: You go, they try to get you to commit to the longest contract that you are willing to accept. They weigh you and take your measurements, give you a pamphlet, and go through their diet program with you at turbo speed. There is also a complimentary vitamin injection included, but they only give it to you at your weekly sessions if you remind them. Their diet program is rather incomprehensible. I was never able to understand it. What l WAS able to understand, is that you are only allowed to eat VERY little throughout the day. A "serving" of nuts, for instance, it's not 1/4 of a cup like nutritionists recommend. Instead it is "5 pieces of nuts." I used to go to a similar clinic that closed, where the counselors would always give you a moral boost to continue with your weight loss effort. At JumpstartMD, there is none of that. If you don't lose weight one week, they are visibly disappointed and tell you to do better next week. I once asked the nurse if she could say something motivating because l was feeling discouraged. She replied: "That is really hard." They are also ruthless salespeople. They constantly tried to sell me "hormone therapy" with their endocrinologist. The initial consultation was around $400 if l remember correctly, and then the medications would of course cost thousands. I told them I'd simply see my own endocrinologist for a $10 copay. In addition to that, they offered me all kinds of medications to curb my appetite. Although they did suggest some standard weight loss medications initially, they later started mentioning drugs that l looked up and found out are used to control seizures, and can have all kinds of awful side effects. Needless to say l declined. But there is, however, one thing that JumpstartMD does exceptionally well, and that is to take your money. If you do decide to go to their "clinic" (l promise you will never see a doctor), l guarantee that thousands of dollars will disappear in the blink of an eye. And what will you have gained? Medical advice from people who are not doctors, telling you pretty much to starve yourself during the 15 minutes per week that they spend with you without doing anything for you whatsoever. Oh, and did l mention that this will cost you at least $400 a month? My advice? Join Weight Watchers.

I started the weight loss program and the BHRT program around the same time, so I attribute my weight loss to both programs. My thyroid (TSH) numbers at the beginning were within normal range, but not at optimal range, so I was put on a low dose of Armour Thyroid medication. Over the course of 10 months, with amazing support from Suzanne and Nandita, I have consistently lost about 1.77 pounds a week! That's nearly 75 pounds in 10 months time. This is not the Keto you see on Pinterest with everything cauliflower, bacon & cheese. They encourage REAL food, and supplements like fish oil, vitamin D, and magnesium. This is not my first time losing a significant amount of weight, but it's the first time I have felt like this is a lifestyle I can live with!!

Sorry not to be able to agree with all the 5 star reviews. I had testosterone pellets inserted, how much, I do not know based on a total testosterone of 13 and free of 1, both readings are in range! In addition I was prescribed 60 mg armour QD based on a free T3 of 2.3, the range is 2.3-4.2, so yes, I was at the bottom of the range and have many hypothyroid symptoms. Here is my concern- testosterone and armour are deemed as moderate contraindications, problem number one. Problem number 2, out of the gate, I am given the highest possible starting dose of Armour even though I am still in range. Problem 3, I am given the highest possible dose of Armour in addition to an unknown amount of testosterone pellets implanted into my skin, which cannot be easily removed (so I have read), and according to Dr. Tandon, cannot be removed- I guess because she doesn't even want to try. Problem number 4, and this is the biggest problem of all- Dr. Tandon is super aggressive in treatment, but then there is no way to get in touch with anyone even during their business hours. I nearly ended up in the ER on Saturday. If not for the fact that I am a nurse and quickly self-educated, I could have ended up in a crisis situation. This is irresponsible medicine in my opinion, and I advise consumers to be wary. This chain seems to be growing very fast, and that is bad new for consumers that are desperate for some help. You will not get any constumer service, and you will not have access to any medical advice once they implant hormones into your body (which, as I have learned the hard way, is not a good idea no matter what. Consumers beware!!

Questions & Answers

How Are Bioidentical Hormones Different from Synthetic Hormones?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

Bioidentical hormones match the precise chemical makeup of the hormones your body produces naturally and, as a result, are indistinguishable to your body from the hormones that provide it an abundance of beneficial effects. Synthetic hormones were well received for years, as they helped to control symptoms associated with menopause. Yet synthetic hormones are distinct from bioidentical hormones because they are not identical chemical replicas of our natural hormones, and thus not a perfect match in our body. Studies have shown synthetic hormones to be associated with a host of adverse consequences ranging from non-life threatening adverse side effects such as bleeding, breast pain, bloating, and mood swings to more dangerous afflictions such as cancer, blood clots, heart disease, and more. This is why we only advocate for replacing your hormones with an exact replica of your natural human hormones.

Is There any Risk of Cancer from BHRT?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

Bioidentical hormones are chemically identical to those hormones found in our own bodies. Studies show that properly delivered, BHRT does not cause cancer. Some studies suggest that bioidentical hormones may exert a protective effect against some cancers.

What Are Potential Side Effects with BHRT?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

Potential complications from bioidentical hormone therapy are rare but could include fluid retention, swelling of hands and feet, breast tenderness or nipple sensitivity, spotting or bleeding, or mood swings and irritability. Testosterone therapy may rarely cause a slight increase in facial hair in some women. This is typically treated easily if needed. While very rare, hair thinning on the scalp may occur in people that convert testosterone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This is also treatable and may furthermore be mitigated by proactive preventative techniques for anyone with those concerns.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect from Treatment?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

It may take time to find the optimal balance, and your dosages may require adjustment. Although rare, during this adjustment phase, you may experience side effects such as headaches, irritability, mood swings, increased acne, difficulty sleeping or breast tenderness. Once your hormones are balanced properly, you’re eating properly, and you’re active and managing your stress, you may begin to experience any or all of the following: Improved energy levels, motivation, and mood Enhanced sexual drive and gratification Reduction in body fat and weight Improved memory, mental clarity, and quickness Improved strength, muscle tone, and exercise capacity Diminished hot flashes The effect of the hormones usually begins within 24 – 72 hours after insertion and reaches its peak efficacy after about 3-5 weeks. The benefits typically start to decline after 3-4 months in women or 5-6 months in men. More muscular, active/athletic people tend to see reduced efficacy sooner.

What is Pellet Therapy and How Does it Work?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

A pellet is a small cylinder slightly bigger than a grain of rice. Manufactured with pharmaceutical grade quality controls, each pellet contains, as an active ingredient, a specific dosage of an FDA-approved bioidentical hormone. Pellets are placed in the fatty tissue underneath the skin of the buttock through relatively painless procedures performed in our office under local anesthesia. By using this approach, the hormones in the pellets are spared from “first pass” metabolism into byproducts in the liver, as occurs with oral (pill) therapy. Each pellet treatment delivers hormones at a consistent level through the day and lasts for up to 3-4 months in women and 5-6 months in men.

Is BHRT an Effective Anti-Aging Treatment?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

Absolutely. Suboptimal hormone levels (deficiencies) are responsible for many of the symptoms attributed to “getting older.” Correcting these deficiencies with biologically-identical, natural hormones are safe and simple and can dramatically improve your health, quality of life and youthful vitality.

What is BHRT?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

BHRT is a safe, proven clinical therapy that rebalances hormone levels that are often responsible for symptoms associated with aging. Bioidentical hormones are designed to precisely match the molecular structures of the natural hormones in your body.

Do you treat adolescents?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

Yes. We treat patients who are 16 and older with parental consent on a case-by-case basis. Adolescents entering or attending college (18 or older) especially benefit from our program as they learn to better manage the unique challenges associated with campus life.

Are your prescription medications safe?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

Yes. We only prescribe medications with a long history of safe and successful use. They have been FDA-approved for decades and have very strong safety profiles. As with any medication, there may be side effects or risks. Most patients experience only the intended effects. If experienced, side effects are minimal and of short duration. Side effects can include dryness of the mouth, constipation, difficulty sleeping, or headaches. Our medical staff will tailor dosages to your individual needs and monitor their safety and effectiveness through your weekly visits.

Will I need to do rigorous exercise?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

Not at all. Understand that exercise is a wonderful and effective wellness tool that we wholeheartedly support, but if your goal is effective and substantive weight loss, your initial focus is better spent on nutritional change. If you are completely sedentary when starting the program, exercise is introduced gradually. To prevent you from becoming too hungry, we recommend moderate exercise once you have settled into the program. Over time, we will increase the amount of exercise and introduce resistance training. High-intensity exercise has many benefits, but we recommend it in the correct sequence.

What will I be eating?

Nadine Leach | Sep 10, 2021
JumpstartMD | Sep 10, 2021

You will continue to enjoy many of the same delicious, whole, fresh foods that you already love while developing a healthy respect for foods that should be the exception and not the norm. We teach you how to order food in social settings and provide strategic shopping lists for Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Mollie Stone’s and Safeway. We appreciate the great resources we have in the Bay Area and encourage our patients to enjoy food and drink in a way that nourishes our lives and physical wellbeing.

This gives you an opportunity to reflect, troubleshoot, ask questions, and raise any concerns as you educate yourself to keep the weight off.
