Below is a general overview of the barn's history. We may have more background in our Library. If you need more info, please contact us through our contact form at farmersmuseum.org/contact/ This barn is an English threshing barn, also known as a Yankee or Connecticut barn, which is typical of upstate New York in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The barn was first used by brothers Philip and Benjamin Sweet, who owned the farm (located in Laurens, New York) in succession from 1802 until sometime before 1850. The barn passed through several owners, and William C. Marble bought the land in 1918. The Farmers' Museum acquired the barn in 1997.
Unfortunately, no. The doors are open and there is an interpreter present to provide visitors with details about the history etc. But no rides are being offered at this time.
