I am a roofing contractor who abides by all local building codes and make my customers aware of said codes. I called the City of Basehor's codes department to ask if they required the use of ice barrier underlayment. I was told that they do. I had a customer in Basehor who wanted to save some money and omit ice barrier, so I asked if I could get something in writing stating that they require ice barrier so I could show my customer (their resident) that this was not an option, it is required. I was told all they could do is state that they use the 2003 IRC code book. The code book simply states that ice barrier is required if there has been a history of ice forming along the eaves of the roof causing a back up of water. So referencing the code book tells me nothing unless the codes people tell me if there has been such a history and they refused to do this. My company works in over 100 different municipalities in the greater Kansas City area. Basehor is the only one who has refused to put in writing whether or not they require ice barrier. Most roofers require this information when dealing with insurance claims. Most cities post this information on their websites as a service to their residents who have storm damaged roofs. Others have a pre-drafted letter they send on request. Some will simply reply to an email to confirm their requirement. After I was stone walled by the initial government representative, I asked if there was someone higher up I could speak with. I was given contact information for the Municipal Services Director. I left 2 voice mails on different days and never received a call back. I then sent 2 different emails on different days. In my emails I asked if they could simply reply "yes" or "no" to my question, "do you require ice barrier underlayment?". Again, I never received a reply. I could not make it any easier for them to perform a service to their residents, but it is evidently too much work to hit "reply" and type a 2 or 3 letter word. Compared to the over 100 other municipalities in our area, Basehor ranks DEAD LAST in customer service.

Certainly hope your other officers do not share the attitude that Clinton Herrman displays. Very arrogant, condescending and very poor attitude. I don’t typically leave reviews, but felt like I needed too. My five minutes around this guy was all I needed to see how your city is run.

Questions & Answers

Where are the closest drop off recycling bins in this area? I guess Honey Creek Disposal doesn’t think rural people like to recycle.

The Leavenworth County Transfer Station has recycling for most all materials. It's off K-7 Highway and Glman Road just outside of Lansing proper.

How old do you have to be to run for mayor?

Not sure on age, but you put in for intent at county election office, and it's not open again until 2021.
