This church has now completely migrated to contemporary services. The beautiful sanctuary is not even used. I understand some people enjoy drums and electric guitars in their worship service, but please don’t turn your back on those who do not (many of which have supported this church for decades). I guess the mission is out with the old, in with the new. The last few times I’ve been, the feeling at this church is very different than it was, and unfortunately not in a good way.

This is a Presbyterian (ECO), theologically reformed, conservative church. It is a family friendly congregation. What most people in the congregation don’t see is the lack of quality leadership at the highest level (senior pastor and the Session which is comprised of elders). Poor day-to-day people management has resulted in high staff turnover. Eight people have been fired in the last two years (out of a staff that hovers around 12). The senior pastor must bear responsibility. The elders are complicit in their support. Sadly, oftentimes elders or boards of churches never receive all they need to make informed decisions. All they have to go on is the narrative the senior pastor puts forth. The people who attend the church don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. This is typical in the evangelical American church today. One person at the top is directing everything, it’s the CEO model of church leadership. If congregants really knew what was going on they would be alarmed, as they should be. I rated this church with two stars because it does do a decent job of trying to reach and support young families. The staff works hard. However, it’s very sad to witness so many people and their families who’ve been deeply hurt by mismanagement and heavy-handedness. Until leadership admits their lack of effective people management they will continue to have high staff turnover. Full disclosure. I was on staff at Grace for more than five years, as an associate pastor in my last role. My intent here is solely to create awareness. My hope is that people will not blindly accept the status quo but instead ask questions and expect answers.

A Great place to learn about God. The sermons are deep yet easy to understand. The kids ministry is awesome.
