I went to El Atlakat today for the first time in over 10 years and our group of seven had a pretty okay experience. The pros: the Peking is ample, they have a pretty nice location that seats about 60 or so, the food is reasonably priced, and the server was kind/extremely communicative. The cons: it was hot as hell and the AC couldn’t keep up with the heat inside, the food runner was relatively rude and had a pompous air to him, and it is clear that they need to hire more servers because ours was running around trying to meet the demands of all the tables assigned to him in the dining room. While El Atlakat is not my favorite place in Miami for Pupusas and Salvadoran food in general, I did like the quality of the food and the kind service that our server, Pablo, provided.

Giving three stars cuz the waitress was disingenuous with the way she treated us. Not to go into detail, but she was robotic AND she slapped on an automatic 18% gratuity. If her service was any less than it was, which she forgot to bring the check, i would have started a show for them to remove the gratuity. Because that is illegal to do. Restaurants that do this auto gratuity have it for more than 6 people, we were 4, and they have it marked on the menu that they add gratuity for 6+ people. It is assuming and disrespectful and knowing she did less than a deserved 18% gratuity to add gratuity. And how does the restaurant know if a waiter/waitress does good or bad if they allow for the staff to add gratuity just because?? Everyone else in tht place seemed genuine with the way they talked to us. She stood out. You can be the best waiter, but if u have the table waiting to pay. And you are with the rest of the staff laughing about something you saw on their phone, but making the table wait to pay. That ruins allot of the good that waiter did. Food was ok. Pico de gallo was borderline old, i could taste the rottenness/podrido of it and I didn't want to try it again. I most likely won't give it another shot. Many other restaurants to try before i this again.

We take pride in taking great care of our Atlakat family, both or staff and guests. We are going above and beyond to keep everyone safe with the follow measures: -We continue to observe 50% indoor capacity to reduce the possibility of spread -markings of 6 feet distance can be found both inside and out of our restaurant -We have installed hand sanitation stations throughout the property (both front of house and back of house) -We have testing protocols set in place for all staff -only parties of 5 or less are allowed to be seated indoors -All tables are thoroughly sanitized after each gustes with FDA approved sanitizing solutions -Enviromasters are performing deep COVID specific cleanings weekly
I loved it. And the waitress Mayra was super attentive and very cordial.
