For small rodents, make sure you are donating non-toxic stuff. There are a lot of bedding chips made for mice, ratties, gerbils, guinea piggies, that arent actually good for them. As the other person said, stuff for cats. They have high turnover in cats, so good quality litter sand is also a good choice. If you are actually thinking of making a monetary donation, dont bother buying something with your money. Give the money to them, they know what they need!!!!!

Also, go to a local vet and tell them you have no money and found a kitten and if you can buy one individual “revolution” for $20. SCAR are happy to take towels and blankets and sheets, providing they are washed and did not have lose threads that could be hazardous to animals choking or getting paws caught. They also always need newspapers too!

When my daughter was in 2nd and 3rd grade, they allowed her to start volunteering with re-supplying the hamsters with food. At last check (pre-COVID), there weren't any formal rules except talking to someone behind the counter, asking what needed to be done and being industrious without needing direct supervision from the staff. Obviously, I managed overseeing my daughter and that she handled herself and the pets with the kind of care someone so young wouldn't naturally possess. With that said 13 is a pretty standard age to start a volunteer gig. I worked in the stock room and did some basic filing at a hospital at that age.

I think it takes maybe a day or two for them to upload a posting once the animal is available for pick up. Sometimes yes. A couple of weeks ago there were Chihuahua mix puppies. But as a dog adopter myself, I'd suggest being open to dropping in and seeing what they have. Puppies are a lot of work initially and grow up pretty fast anyway. Our dog was a year old, and he's one of the best dogs you will find. He's 6 now and I don't for one second regret not getting a puppy. They have plenty of apartment sized dogs, head over and see what you fall in love with.

Yes they do have a foster program for dogs. You can take home one of the dogs for about 2 weeks or more. They give you the required medication (if any), a cage (if necessary) and some dog food to start you off. I think the foster program is best for dog lovers who cannot afford to adopt a dog fully.
