Interesting, informative, and fun ride from the station with a model train display and gift shop to the old willow lumber mill and museum.

Overall I would say the experience was just okay. The place and train seemed extremely run down and there wasn't really much to do there except the train ride which lasted about 30min each way, so an hour in total. The train has only one compartment with A/C and the other carts are all open. The train is extremely bumpy, making it very unstable if you are in a wheelchair and all passengers have to stay seated for majority of the ride. They do sell a few concessions on board. After the first leg of the ride, you can get off for about 10 minutes but there is really nothing to do there except an extremely small museum. I'm glad we gave it a try, the kids were excited to see the train and for the train ride itself but I wouldn't recommend for people with busy kids/toddlers.

Fun little place and riding a real train is a cool experience! It wasn’t expensive at all! We had a great time! Be careful of fire ants at the Willow stop!

Wonderful family outing! Spent a solid half hour enjoying the gorgeous miniatures before a relaxing train ride. Affordable snacks and drinks aboard the dining car. Make sure to make your way to the very back of the gift shop for vintage railroad finds-amazing! Every penny was well spent. Adults and kids alike will enjoy thoroughly.

Questions & Answers

Is this a steam train ride and is it handicap accessible?

It is a diesel, they have several different ones they use for the trip, depends on what weekend you go. It is very handicap accessible, a very enjoyable experience for the price. They have 3 static steam locomotives to view but none are currently operational.

I heard some railroad tracks are going to be reopened. Do you know of any in Palmetto or Ellenton? Or do you know of a number to call?

Wow good question. I don't know but I would call them and see if they know or they could give you info to find out. They are really great people.
